Prez revs up for NASCAR appearance

WASHINGTON - President Bush will woo those key voters known as ``NASCAR dads'' by visiting the New Hampshire International Speedway next weekend and declaring, ``Start your engines!''

Bush will participate in the opening of the Sylvania 300 NASCAR race in Loudon a week from tomorrow before heading to Derry for an ``Ask President Bush'' event.

With his visit, the president continues his push for one of the most sought-after groups of swing voters this year.

Dubbed NASCAR dads, they are largely blue-collar, white men who live in rural or suburban areas. The socially conservative bunch used to vote Democratic but now usually vote Republican.

Like the ``soccer moms'' of 2000, NASCAR dads are all the rage this presidential race.

Democrats are trying to appeal to the racing fans, many of whom are struggling economically, by focusing on jobs and the economy.

I think the author would be surprised to know there are many, many NASCAR moms out there too.

I'd love to see John Kerry and Mama T at a NASCAR event.

It would be like the Chinese water torture for them.

Wasn't Kerry going to windsurf behind a NASCAR car?

"Vote for me and I'll try to get you a job in the Ketchup factory."

I'd pay to see that.

Of course if he's winsurfing behind a NASCAR car, he's winsurfing in front of others.

"NASCAR Dads" is another phony voter block invented by the news media, like the old "waitress moms" voter block that you never hear about anymore.

True NASCAR fans, meaning those who really have an interest in the sport, are Republicans, plain and simple. They hate liberals, the french, and John Kerry.

Democrats are trying to appeal to the racing fans, many of whom are struggling economically, by focusing on jobs and the economy.

In 1992, this was true for many Americans. Even as recently as last year, this was partially true.

However, the economy has now improved to the point where many are no longer in great fear of losing their jobs. The RATs were banking on this, but once again, good news for the country means bad news for F'n.

Pne of the most stirring moments for me was when AF-1 swpet in over the srowd at Daytona this year! I was watching on TV and didn't have a clue it was going to happen.

Sadly I haven't found any pics of the approach but this pic of the departure is also one of my favs. I keep it as desktop wallpaper.

I will be there at the race (if hurricane IVAN doesn't come up the coast and mess things up). I'll send in a report when I get back from Louden, NH.

They were taking off. The runway is very close to the stands, but hte camera overemphasizes it.

Stil it was an awe inspiring sight. FOX carried it live. It still brings a tear to my eye!

Plus you should have seen how the drivers and crews gathered around W! What a difference from when x42 went to a NASCAR race in ....Durham NC I think. Word is the drivers drew straws to see who would be the unlucky one to show him around!

Nope, x42 showed up at Darlington in '96 I believe. My fellow NASCAR fans gave him the resounding welcome of boos he so richly deserved.
