Two more "Killian" documents
USA Today | 9/11/2004 | Charleston1

Posted on 09/11/2004 4:09:42 PM PDT by charleston1

The CBSNEWS website includes links to four pdf files that are allegedly documents produced by the late Lt. Colonel Jerry B. Killian. The USA Today website (search on "bush docs") includes a link "see the memos" which links to a pdf file which includes all of the CBS documents and two more. The two additional "Killian" documents are dated 02 February 1972, and 24 June 1973. The earlier document includes the more informal "Jerry B. Killian" signature block but no signature. The later document is an apparent practice letter with a salutation to "sir" but no address or name of the person to whom Colonel Killian is trying to correspond. I can certainly understand why these two additional documents did not make the "60 Minutes" cut. They are worth reviewing for a number of reasons if you have not seen them.

But if CBS originally received the memos, then sent them to the white house, who then sent them to other media outlets.

Why did CBS release and air memos that had been written on with a pen and marked with a black marker, but give clean versions to the white house? It doesn't make any sense.

CBS airing marked docs implies that's the only version they have. But USA Today has clean versions, plus two additional. It doesn't add up.

But what typewriter was there on base?

A simple FOIA request solves that. I bet no composer typewriter was on location.

The only report was that the Air Force EXPERIMENTED with the machines, no report if they actual bough them.

I'm waiting for the Colonel Killian memos praising John Kerry and proclaiming that one day Kerry would make a great president.

Thanks, I needed a new tag line The CWO mean you were rated?

Ya put a couple of guys in sorta matching outfits they become interchangable anyway. Pretty soon all docs that pop up are gonna be signed by someone named "Military Bighoncho Dude".

"Why are none of the markings on the USA Today versions? You cant erase pen and marker ink."

Obviously you have never used reverse white-out.

Since the origin of the document is not a FOIA request with the DOD, there is no reason the address would have been marked out prior to being given to CBS.

I think that CBS gave the White House an unmarked version and then blacked it out themselves for legal reasons prior to posting the document on the web. Of course you can still see the address on the CBS version but they went through the motions. Apparently the White House saw no reason to black out a long ago Bush residence. I would not want to be living there right now as gawkers have a way of turning private property into temporary shrines.

There are probably some topics and threads you should avoid so you can retain that impression.

Did Bush have his medical done the prior year? He must have, otherwise he would have been grounded in July 1971. Why would there be a medical required 6 months early?

Great detective work!!Keep it up Freepers!!!!

I hear what you're saying, but there's no way for me to know. CBS adding underlines to highlight portions of the text, to direct their reader to the part of the story they want them directed towards makes sense. I'm underlined, look at me!!

Blocking out the address... Could be something like broadcasters always using phone numbers starting 555-XXXX. Ya don't want real people, unrelated to a story broadcast to a wide audience, (which includes a percentage of total whacko's) to be messed with. Any paper showing a residental addy might be blocked, per editorial policy of CBS.

Staldt retired in '72, not Killian. One of the memos written in 73 talks about Staldt putting pressure on Killian.

Ohhhhh this is getting better than a intense moment in a " Sherlock Holmes Mystery"!!!! KEEP IT UP FREEPERS...I may not have the " brights" to dissect the papers, but I sit here on the sidelines cheering you all on....GO BUSH GO!!!!!!

When did the late Lt. Colonel Jerry B. Killian retire from the military. I keep hearing conflicting stories. One being, that he retired in 1972 and would have had no dealings with the pilots in 1973.

No it was Colonel Stoudt who retired in 1972

"They also don't include a town or zipcode on that june 24th memo"

And of all of the documents that one was to go out of state to Alabama. Man this kind of garbage really disparages Lt. Colonel Killian. I wondered how Dan Rather rationalized using the old he is dead so can't defend himself problem that reporters run into from time to time but then I remembered that "60 Minutes" did interview the family. They were partisans I guess, unlike Uncle Ben.

[Not to mention Bush wasn't even due for a yearly medical until his birthday, in what is it, July? From what I understand the airforce requires medicals yearly and made the airmens birthdates as the time to have them.

Did Bush have his medical done the prior year? He must have, otherwise he would have been grounded in July 1971. Why would there be a medical required 6 months early? ]
...................

Two apparently authentic documents released earlier by the White House in a "Misc." file) show that his 71 & 73 physicals WERE given in May though his B'day is certainly in July.

Any complaints that the letterhead is too perfectly centered could be countered with the argument that the letterhead was pre-printed on the originals.

Nope preprinted stationary would have had ANG seals on it.
