We've had a lot of new folks join up recently. Welcome aboard, this thread is a gentle reminder of some basic posting guidelines. (And for some of you old timers as well) Please read the follow, and ask any questions. We will all try to help you out.
SEARCH
If it's a breaking news topic, check breaking news first, it's probably already posted.
To avoid duplicate posts, please search before posting. Use the published article title to prevent duplicates. The best method to search is to pick a key word or two from the title. If the article you are posting is, "Dan Rather Memo", start with 'Memo' for the key word. If it is a hot topic, you might want to use two or more keywords, in this case, try 'memo rather'. For an effective search, select 'match all words' and select 'order by post time'.
All non-sourced non-news threads are posted here. This doesnt mean your one thought is a thread by itself. Lately, we have been seeing articles posted that should be comments made on the main article. Your comment/vanity article will be pulled or moved to General Interest (Chat). Vanities should be limited to the mission of Free Republic.
For all of you who have blogs or personal web sites or personal news or opinion or forum sites that you would like to discuss or promote on Free Republic, here's the place to do it.
Our new Bloggers & Personal forum is for:
- Posting from your blog.
- Posting from other peoples blogs.

No offense, Mr. Moderator, but do you EVER leave the house?
Pop culture has become news. It IS news.
Worth repeating for those who slam others for "promoting" their websites.
There IS a place for that!:

Dont be a posting girlie manLOLOL!
from a FR newbie. Thank you. We need help.Welcome to FreeRepublic.com! :^D
Here is a link. Go to post #116 first (link should take you right to that post), and look under "Pictures". That will give a walk-thru for picture posting. That article gives a lot of very useful and helpful tips on HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language), which you need to post on FR. There are other related links and information there as well.

You might want to bookmark that article. Bookmarking puts an article on your FReeper Profile page for quick and easy referencing. See post #53 & 59 for bookmarking instructions.
If you have any questions or problems, feel free to send me a Freep mail or a note and well work through it.
BTT!!!!!!
Looks good to me - BUMPING
Thanks!
Bump to you Tonk....and thanks for having me in a great patriots ping list!
And we are seeing more of those this year. (almost 100 percent have no profile page - a good indication to search for posts by the screenname)
I signed on in 1998 and I don't have a profile listed. I don't want to put too much effort into FR as it may just be a fad.
"All blogs are NOT created equal.. some have more substance than others. Some are little more than electronic TP." - me
Thanks!
(Please don't quote me..)
*chuckle*
bump
BTW, I envy your forsight to sign on years before I found this site. It is the greatest source of real news available.
I was reacting to the dozen or so that did the old "post and run" routine last week. You guys did an excellent job of ZOTTING but I was thinking of preventive measures. Of course, we are seeing "sleeper" trolls popping up now with 1998/1999 sign on dates so.....
Dang, that's hard on an old man's heart. lol
*drooooooooooool*
thank you for this
Im struggling ...

Welcome aboard.
The AM's are chock full of info and are really useful when you, say, post a thread and goof the title.
For example, a quick "Help! Can you correct the title!" is all that's needed, and they'll fix whatever is up with the title.
(If you accidentally double post, they can also remove one when asked.)
I remember being new here once myself a few years back.
Again, welcome aboard!
And happy FReeping.
I hope you're right.
Remember Newt Gingrich and the Contract with America, and how everybody said that the era of the New Deal had suddenly ended? It didn't turn out that way, unfortunately.
I think these are all steps along the path you're describing. If we can continue to take two steps forward, one step back, we'll do OK.
Or if Bush wins in a landslide (I know that's not what the ex-mainstream media are predicting, but... ), Kerry could become the political mirror-image of Goldwater, taking what liberalism has turned into out of the mainstream of politics as he implodes.
Either way works for me. "Slow and steady" would probably be more stable and harder to turn around again (as happened with Gingrich).
:)
