[history]
We've had a lot of new folks join up recently. Welcome aboard, this thread is a gentle reminder of some basic posting guidelines. (And for some of you old timers as well) Please read the follow, and ask any questions. We will all try to help you out.
HOW TO POST AN ARTICLE
SEARCH
If it's a breaking news topic, check breaking news first, it's probably already posted.
To avoid duplicate posts, please search before posting. Use the published article title to prevent duplicates. The best method to search is to pick a key word or two from the title. If the article you are posting is, "Dan Rather Memo", start with 'Memo' for the key word. If it is a hot topic, you might want to use two or more keywords, in this case, try 'memo rather'. For an effective search, select 'match all words' and select 'order by post time'.
Search Memo
Vanities and General Interest.General Interest (Chat)
All non-sourced non-news threads are posted here. This doesnt mean your one thought is a thread by itself. Lately, we have been seeing articles posted that should be comments made on the main article. Your comment/vanity article will be pulled or moved to General Interest (Chat). Vanities should be limited to the mission of Free Republic.

Great post... but I must of missed the part where you warn the newbies about Laz. :) Shhh, that's supposed to be a surprise for the newbies ;-)

Don't people understand the purpose of focused discussion?More than quite a few still don't understand this basic and damned important scenario. Maybe I should ping 'em...;-)

I'm a relative newbie, having only been registered for about the last 6 weeks, although I had been a lurker for a few months before that. I have a few comments on some of the posts.
In article 27, isom35 asked about rigging things so that a new person can't post for a week. What drove me to convert from a lurker to a participant here was a news report on one of our local tv stations about President Bush that had not been picked up on FR and I thought deserved to be covered, see
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1184447/posts . While I don't disagree with a probationary period I think some mechanism should be in place to bend the rules at the discretion of the moderator.
Another question comes to mind, in that, when I've created new articles, I've paraphrased something from the tv or a line from a speech that seemed significant, in which case I can't cite a link to an article or a web page. Since I've been talking about "news", I posted them in News/Activism. Is this acceptable?.
I would also add a yes to "stickies".
Finally let me say what a great bunch of people you (Freepers), all are. My experience here has been nothing but positive.

I don't agree with the probation period either. You did things right by lurking for a bit to get a feel for the site, and by posting an informational article instead of a blog or vanity first off. (Plus, by lurking you had probably observed what kind of welcome FReepers were capable of when annoyed)
Belated Welcome to FR.

Double Amen! Vanities were getting entirely out of hand.
Bravo!

I did not post an alert thread regarding MSNBC's Chris Matthew's Hardball segment today ( could not tell if it was a replay ) attacking the credibility of the POW's and producer of "Stolen Honor" . I didn't get all my facts together enough to post a thread but would have liked to be about to post an alert to get eyeballs switched to catch what he is putting on the airwaves....hope there is a replay....

Good question....or when you want to get some eyeballs on a segment like Hardball that is dumping on somebody!

BUMP!
The main reason I dislike duplicates (which I've noticed a lot of recently) is they scatter comments. It's just so much better to have one consolidated thread--one article along with all replies.
I appreciate when when folks type "Already posted" and include a link. Otherwise I might miss the original comments.

It's difficult to tell one Admin Moderator from another. How does an Admin Mod know which one they are?
This of course could be the same as saying:
...Know thyAdmin Moderator, and
...If a tree falls in a forest, can an Admin Moderator hear it?
Thank you for all the good work you do everyday. It's amazing how lightening fast and dependable FR's Admin Moderators have been. :)
