Another CBS Source Backs Down

On September 10, 2004, Dan Rather declared war on the internet. He shouldn't have because it's a battle he is destined to lose. Addressing only a small part of the hundreds of criticisms that web-based critics and assorted typewriter, font, and military experts have lodged against his report, Rather and his CBS colleagues seem to have a masochistic desire for punishment. Our latest updates on the Memogate controversy are posted below. For our 21-point rebuttal to Rather's Sept. 10 salvo, click here.

The unraveling continues. Two of the three people cited on-camera by CBS News as vouching for its conclusion that Jerry Killian--the former Air National Guard commanding officer of George W. Bush--authored incriminating memoranda about the future president have, in subsequent interviews with other media organizations, tempered their support for CBS.

Robert Strong, who served with Killian as an officer tells the New York Times that he does not believe that his former associate used a proportional font typewriter during his time in the Texas guard.

"Mr. Strong said in an interview Friday he was quite sure that he and others used Selectrics in the adjutant general's office. He added that he was not sure the typewriters and devices were also in the 147th Combat Support Squadron at the Ellington base in Houston, home of the 111th squadron.

"'I'm skeptical that Killian was working on that,' Mr. Strong said."

Strong's comments come on the heels of a statement from Marcel Matley, a writing analyst whom CBS presented as having certified its four documents. Interviewed by the Los Angeles Times, however, Matley said that he only vouched for one to the network.

Ben Barnes claims that while he was Lt. Governor he helped "pull strings" to get Bush into the Texas Air National Guard.

According to the Texas Archives and Barnes' own bio, he was sworn in as Lt. Governor on Jan. 21, 1969.

But Bush enlisted in the TANG on May 27, 1968. Preston Smith was Lt. Governor at that time, not Barnes who had not even been elected to the office yet.

Why would Barnes, as Lt. Governor, be needed to help Bush who had already been in the TANG for 8 months before Barnes even took office?

Why is no one in the media picking up on this fact, proving Barnes is a liar about being asked to help Bush?

Travis, that is an excellent summary of what happened out in California this past year with the maggots of the perverted MSM. Their lies and spins about Arnold backfired big time with the moderates, independents and the young 20-30 something voters both male and female.

One of the major problems that MSM has is it thinks tv/print not internet/radio. People have lots of skills that they bring to bare online that are just not available in print or TV (for example I would never had know to look at proportional spacings without the Freerepublic.com).

An example from my own life is that my parents constantly read newspapers and watch gnashes for information, but will never log onto a new papers site. I, OTOH, use the internet almost exclusively for my news. I'm always ahead of them on what is happening and and who is doing it. With sites like this and the various blogs I read I am much better informed than if I only read something that was published more than 8 hours before I read it.

MSM found out in Cali that people are now receiving their news from internet sources much more consistently then from TV or print. Rathergate is MSM learning this lesson nationally.

I have a problem believing that Strong used a Selectric but I could be wrong. I would like to find other clerical people in that particular National Guard and see what they say.
