The FNC just had a Rathergate segment with a package by mediocre journalist Kelly Wright --who only refers to President Bush as "Mr. Bush" -- kind of like Jesse Jackson-- and he basically said that the only beef the blogosphere had with the memos was the superscript and that other undisputed Bush docs had a superscript (so basically he's peddling the Rather line). There is so much wrong with the "documents"-- they are clearly forgeries--- even the Wash. Post and ABC and NBC News are saying they most probably are.
The Staudt retirement that renders one memo as total bs, the Hodges defection, the handwriting expert rather than n expert to deal with the typographical issues. There are so many reasons why Dan lied his keister off. Somebody has to go down hard for this. And FNC are giving aid and comfort to Rather. I'd rather they just not cover it if they are going to do so in a , to quote O'Reilly, "powerful protecting the powerful" manner.
I gave up on Fox News long ago when they went on their Kobe Bryant / Michael Jackson / Scott Peterson benders. Nothing irked me more than their "Fox ALERT!" graphics followed by more bull**** about one of those trials.
Someone post the contact info for FOX!
They take off on weekends!!
Well Mort and Fred were having a shouting match with Juan last night about it! Best fight I've seen on TV in awhile, and Mort and Fred weren't backing down and said CBS needs to provide the docs to others to verify.
Did anyone see Wendall Goler's report on the memo's? Was distracted by family but thought he said Pentagon says the memos are frauds. Can anyone confirm/deny what I thought I heard?
I agree with you. The Greta show is useless. I am sick of the endless courtroom saga shows, but I suspect they get viewers.
FNC is so intimidated by the Big 3 and the prtint press-- it does nothing. O'Reilly and Shep Smith are absolute duds. Hannity is offset by Comes. Greta is liberal. I don't know where the Hell they say that that network is conservative. Less important than ideology is straight shooting, toughness and willingness to go after it.
Rather is a sick, old creature right there for the taking. They need to take him out. It is entirely appropraite to take him out.
Maybe they want ABC and NBC to do it-- it would look less patisan, and maybe they're right. But it is starting to look like Dan will sliver out of this. I'm say no to that.
He deserves to go. It's time.
I think they are looking into the PO BOx number to see if it was from the TANG.
Brian Kilmeade of F&F is usually pretty good about exposing the facts: Try Friends@foxnews.com as well as Sean Hannity at Hannity@foxnews.com .
Maybe so, but I really, really don't want Kelly Wright being the guy on this story. Even Major Garrett has been better than him.
Good idea. This thing needs to be covered folks. From all angles and until the last body falls at CBS.
Yeah, I saw a bit of that. Juan is a really, really dishonest hack.
Wendell said they talked to three different Pentagon officials who said they were fakes.
Thanks, for the information and condirmation that I'm not projecting my wishes into my hearing.
Fox is so TIMID and LAZY reportering these days...don't watch it all that much anymore. Wendell Goler is HIDEOUS.
Last weekend's hurricane coverage was mind-numbingly repetitive.
1-- proportional spacing not generally available
2 -- superscripts not generally available
3 - small "th" single element not generally available
4 - Smart quotes. Curved apostrophes and quotation marks were not available
5-The blurriness of the copy indicates it was recopied dozens of times, tactic of forgers
6--Signature block. Typical authentic military signature block has name, then rank, then on the next line the person's position. This just has rank beneath the name.
7--Margins. These look like a computer's unjustified default, not the way a person typing would have done it.
8 -- Date usually with three letters, or in form as 110471.
9 - words run over consistent with word processor
10 - may be a Times Roman or similar font not generally available then (per Haas Atlas)
11 - signature looks faked
12 - no errors and whiteout
13 - no letterhead
14 - exact match for Microsoft Word Processor
15 - Paper size problem, Air Force and Guard did not use 8 1/2 x 11 inch paper until the 1980s.
16 - Overlap analysis is an exact match
17 - absence of hyphens to split words between lines, c/w 1970's typewriter.
18 - 5000 Longmont #8 in Houston Tx. does not exist
19 - Box 34567 is suspicious, at best. The current use of the po box 34567 is Ashland Chemical Company, A Division of Ashland Oil, Incorporated P. O. Box 34567 Houston
20 - it would have been nearly impossible to center a letterhead with proportional spacing without a computer.
21 - Bush's grade would "normally" be abbreviated "1Lt" not "1st Lt"
22 - Subject matter bizarre (CYA???)
23 - Air Force did not use street addresses for their offices, rather HQ AFLC/CC, Wright-Patterson AFB, OH 45433.
24 - kerning was not available
25 - In the August 18, 1973 memo, Jerry Killian purportedly writes: "Staudt has obviously pressured Hodges more about Bush. I'm having trouble running interference and doing my job." but General Staudt, who thought very highly of Lt. Bush, retired in 1972.
26 - Language not generally used by military
27 - Not signed or initialed
28 - Not in any format that a military person would use, e.g. orders not given by Memo.
condirmation = conFirmation
Colmes has become as bad as Juan. I cannot stand that man. He KNOWS the memos are fakes, yet it's still "It's the story not the documents that matters". How does Hannity stand him, I'll never figure that one out.
Jim Angle is a good person to contact, by the way. He actually writes back and seems sincere. He cares about gettting the real story out. Greta wrote the rudest response I've ever gotten from a media person.
I am about to give up on Bill O'Reilly and Shaun Hannity. Bill O'Reilly had a good run for 5 years but has become a 'lay down' for most Liberal guests on the show. Shaun has some good talking points but never follows through with his guest's answers. Answers that have big lies and holes that anyone can drive a semi-truck through. Very frustrating to watch. It's as if he is too focused on his next question and believes in the 'catch & release' technique.
