SYRACUSE NY--More than 5,000 tickets have been sold already for documentary filmmaker Michael Moore's Sept. 22 talk at Syracuse University, and tickets for the general public don't go on sale until Monday, a university spokesman said Friday.
Even before tickets went on sale, the buzz Moore's visit created on campus prompted university officials to change the venue, spokesman Kevin Morrow said. Moore's portrayal of President Bush in his latest film, "Fahrenheit 9/11," has stirred political passions.
Moore was initially scheduled to speak Oct. 17 at the Schine Student Center's Goldstein Auditorium. He had a scheduling conflict and asked the university if he could reschedule the speech to Sept. 22, Morrow said.
Organizers agreed, and also decided a larger venue was probably necessary, he said.
Goldstein Auditorium seats 1,600 people, Morrow said. SU students, faculty and staff have purchased more than 5,000 tickets so far, he said.
Moore, whose films also include "Bowling for Columbine" and "Roger and Me," will now speak at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 22 at the Carrier Dome, where up to 49,000 people could attend. Morrow said he does not expect that many people.
Organizers can configure the stage in the Dome to fit the size of the crowd, he said.
Moore's appearance is part of the 2004 Syracuse Symposium. "Doonesbury" cartoonist Garry Trudeau will kick off the symposium at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 21 at Hendricks Chapel. The event is free and open to the public.
An exhibition of "Doonesbury" cartoons will be on display at the Schine Student Center's Panasci Lounge from Sunday to Sept. 26.
If the event is free then how can they sell tickets to him?
Is it Tredeau who is free?
But why would he be free but not Moore?
Skip it,Its not like I care about these idiots
presentations by commies only.
I never realised Syracuse was such a hot bed of Anti-Americans. But then Hillary always makes the State Fair there doesnt she?
They have invoked the kerry philosophy of politics...the "flip-flop".
They can sell tickets, but then they can give tickets away for free...
It's only an hour's drive from the City of Evil...
This is a perfect match. Syracuse is a city with no reason for being there. And Michael Moore is a human being with no reason for being...so there.
Basically, all colleges are liberal...
Also, they sold out with 10,000 tickets sold to see Michael Moore.
