Mickey Kaus on Liberal Conspiracy Theory re CBS Docs (involves Freeper Buckhead)
Kausfiles ^ | 9/11/04

Posted on 09/11/2004 2:26:27 AM PDT by ambrose

Patterico shoots down a promising pro-Kerry Web conspiracy theory--namely that the potential forgery of the CBS Bush guard documents was spotted so quickly on the Web that the person who spotted it ("Buckhead," poster #47 at Free Republic) must have been tipped off in advance. That would suggest that any forgery was planted, presumably by pro-Bush forces. But it seems this whole theory, promoted in this morning's ABC News Note, was based on a misreading of time stamps by ABC. In reality, Buckhead had a couple of hours to come up with his post--something he confirms in an email to Patterico.... ABC has corrected its mistake (without withdrawing the now seemingly groundless insinuation). NPR hasn't corrected the error, according to Patterico, and David Brock's Media Matters still posts it. ... P.S.: Media Matters might want to decide if a) the documents are authentic, as argued at the top of their Web page or b) the documents are forgeries planted by Republicans, as argued at the bottom of their Web page. Lawyers are allowed to plead in the alternative, but a) and b) can't both be true, and the evidence for each of those propositions is also evidence against the other one. 1:10 A.M. Several years ago, when there was some talk that conservatives might consider purchasing one of the three networks, a friend asserted: "Now, I don't want Jesse Helms telling me what to think!"

My response was: "Well, hasn't Dan Rather been telling you what to think for years?"

There was a look of absolute consternation. The thought that the "evening news" was a source of propaganda and brainwashing on the events of the day had never occurred to this otherwise intelligent person!

Perhaps, now, some ordinary folks will begin to get a clue as to how the mainstream media (to say nothing of the mainstream churches) have manipulated their thinking for decades.

Can you believe this? It amazing to watch all the twisting -- since we know the truth.

Various Reporters have been trying to reach me via Freepmail to interview me about this story. Except for a quote I gave to Patterico, I have demurred. The LA Times and Boston Globe among them, you know, our best friends in the print media wanting to cast us in a fair light.

The LA Times reporter was inquiring into my background, especially whether I am a Republican. I'm sure there was no thought at all to advancing the Buckhead is Karl Rove's byatch theory. Here was my response about my background, affiliations, activities:

---
The details of my life are quite inconsequential.
..... My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner from Belgium with low grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. My mother was a fifteen year old French prostitute named Chloe with webbed feet. My father would womanize, he would drink, he would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Some times he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy, the sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. My childhood was typical, summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When I was insolent I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds, pretty standard really. At the age of 12 I received my first scribe. At the age of fourteen, a Zoroastrian woman named Vilma ritualistically shaved my testicles. There really is nothing like a shorn scrotum, it's breathtaking, I suggest you try it.

Bucky, you forgot to tell them about Christmas in Cambodia.

1968, wasn't it?

By the way, have you seen the latest CBS documents?

Yes, fine, whatever. Background blah blah blah. The real question regarding your credibility is whether or not you like George Bush. If "yes," you are totally a partisan hack and not to be believed. If "no," you are completely objective and unbiased and worthy of being quoted.

God gawd, man, have you learned nothing in the last few days??? That post is going up on blogs faster than the Space Station traverses the earth! As fact!

(I hope they never find out that you forced us to put up those threads and link the documents so you could claim they were fakes; Chris Lehane might come for us.)

I do know what you mean though: my Hotmail account has too many emails to even look at and in Freepmail, I'm only opening ones from people I know!

The ones from the newspapers, etc., I've been sending one of these two gaphics:

I actually overestimated the libs. I actually thought they would cough up an apology and wiggle out of this. I had no idea Rather would cling to this lie like a wad of gum to a sidewalk.
