My wife and I went into credit counselling about ten years ago and tore up all of our credit cards.

One of my prior jobs was as a Center Administrator for a debt management company. Trust me, they are making money from the people who have debt as well as the credit card companies. You are not alone, many have numerous credit cards and use them all, some to pay off debt to other credit card companies. It is a never-ending cycle. Our education system should teach our youngsters about debt and its consequences - something that would relate to the real world and help them to function with realistic budgets.

Our credit counsellors are a part of our Federal Credit Union, where we bank as educators. They have been so great. I teach economics in an inner city high school. You'd better believe I include it as a seminal part of my teaching!
