NEW YORK -- Yesterday, Goliath CBS News was delivered a smooth stone to the forehead by a FReeper.
A poster in the FreeRepublic.com conservative news forum mentioned something peculiar about two documents CBSs 60 Minutes claimed on September 8 were generated by now deceased Lieutenant Colonel Jerry B. Killian regarding an allegedly National Guard-evading George W. Bush in 1973.
Within minutes following the broadcast, FReeper "TankerKC" wrote this to FReeper "Howlin'":
WE NEED TO SEE THOSE MEMOS AGAIN!
{snip]
Since then, news of the potential forgery glitch spread like wildfire from blog to blog and into the mainstream press - especially that of CBS competitors ABC and NBC.

Sorry, bad pun... couldn't help myself ;-)
Congratulations!!!
Who'd a thunk that the new function of showing the views would become so relevant!
Mine have feet.
You have to whip out that ping list of yours... I know Freepers would be thrilled to see the headline and article :-)
Free Republic a.k.a. Partisan Pajama People LOL
Pretty hard to stuff people wearing pj's into a bottle, eh?
LOL...And we thought those American Idol threads were something else!!!!
Al must be ready to hang himself for inventing the internet.
Who'd o' thunk it.
"...priceless."
(back to bed)
Thanks for the site and for the post, JimRob. I knew we found something special when we were channel surfing and ran across that freeper rally protesting the shenanigans of i42 in October 98 on CSPAN.
I saw those Freeper signs and heard the freeper speakers and knew I was home. We had just bought our first computer and knew absolutely NOTHING about net surfing. We saw the web site address on CSPAN and after the thing was over we rushed in to the computer to see what it was all about. We havent left yet!
Journalistic history was made here this week. I celebrate with all here for that victory. Warmest congrats to Howlin and all on the Live Threads.
I also would encourage all to reserve a small place in their hearts and minds to being ever watchful and jealous of this precious free commodity that AlGore was so thoughtful to invent for us. The rage of the dragon is thrashing around and will make obvious and covert moves to shut the net and other alternative media down.
I know I can count on my fellow FReepers to sound the horns and ring the alarm bells when the dragon stirs. I also know that I can count on my fellow FReepers to respond vigorously to those alarms. By God's grace, we shall, together, chop off the tail of that dragon for good and all!
CNN Headline News a few minutes ago said a former Japanese official had said GW told him some time ago that his father had pulled strings to get him into the Texas Air National Guard. In the next breath, CNN said that the documents Rather and CBS had produced looked to be bogus since a doc. expert said they were likely computer generated. So it seems as if CNN is hanging over both sides of the fence here. Slam Bush as best they can, then slide the shiv into CBS. Didn't catch the name or rank of the Japanese govt. official, sorry.
for seven or eight years, i have been telling everyone that the internet, more specifically freerepublic, is gutenberg's vision writ large. nice to see the rest of the world finally sees it my way.
Nice hobby you have here Jim, keep up the excellent work.
Do we get an entry in the next edition of the dictionary, too?
Schadenfreude!
Guess Al Gore could just shoot himself in the foot for inventing the Internet.
If you've seen Al lately, you'll notice that he's been having 'midnight snacks' all day long!
