Questions mount on Guard memos' authenticity (Killian Signature Forgery?)
Washington Times ^ | 9/11/04 | Rowen Scarborough

Posted on 09/10/2004 9:41:43 PM PDT by kattracks

A handwriting expert says the two signatures on purported Texas National Guard memos aired by CBS News this week are not those of President Bush's squadron commander, as asserted by "60 Minutes."
Until now, press scrutiny of the memos supposedly written by the late Lt. Col. Jerry B. Killian focused on the finding that the documents were, in the opinion of experts, produced by computers not yet in use in the early 1970s.
Eugene P. Hussey, a certified forensic document examiner in Washington state, said yesterday there is another flaw in the CBS memos. Mr. Hussey studied the known signatures of Col. Killian on Air Force documents, and two signatures on documents dated 1972 and 1973 that aired on "60 Minutes" Wednesday night.

"It is my limited opinion that Killian did not sign those documents," Mr. Hussey told The Washington Times. He said he uses the phrase "limited opinion" because he does not have the original documents. He, like other experts interviewed by the press, relied on copies of originals first obtained by CBS. The White House then distributed copies of the memos in what is said was the interest of full disclosure.

[snip]

The Times provided Mr. Hussey with copies of the CBS documents, which he dubbed Q-1-3, and records known to have been signed by Col. Killian, (K-1-3).
"It is my opinion based on the examination of the Q-1 through Q-3 and K-1 through K-3, that Jerry B. Killian probably did not sign his name to Q-1 and his initial to Q-3," Mr. Hussey said in a signed letter to The Times. "As to the authenticity of the CBS documents, that is Q-1 through Q-3, [they] appear to be product of a computer, rather than a typewriter."

No the crime is placing a dead man's signature on those documents. That is why Rather can't backdown. I see a criminal investigation coming.

There is a whispering campaign started by Tom Harkin to suggest that President Bush was trying to avoid the physical because he was doing drugs according to Special Report with Brit Hume on Fox News this afternoon. The only problem is they didn't do drug testing in those days unless there was a suspicion that the person was on drugs in the first place which President Bush wasn't.

All of this is really *issing me off!

Do you think Rather had anything to do with the forgeries themselves? I don't!

From what I hear, the same person who released the Abu Graub photo's is who had these documents. And considering how the Abu Graub pictures were released in groups of 1 dozen or so each week, for 2 months straight, in order to cause as much damage to our efforts in Iraq as possible. Abu Graib was over blown, but there wasn't any forged documents. I am willing to bet that this woman in Texas who works for CBS in an antiwar activist who wants nothing more than to hurt George W. Bush's reputation.

So I think Dan was just the stooge they convinced to publish the poorly done documents, and they are really poorly done. The Signature was so far off that Stevie Wonder could spot the forgery

Is anyone remembering to mention that Harkin is a proven liar who said he was a pilot and served in Vietnam? In fact he never was! He was stationed in Japan.

Wonder if any MSM will ask him about HIS service while he's out there undermining the service of our President.

BTW .. since the claim from the Dems is that Bush was just trying to avoid the war by joining the Air National Guard

Wouldn't it have made more sense to join the Peace Corp like Chrissy Matthews did ?

I think legendary Freeperette Deb rang the bell Thursday.

This is a Sidney Blumenthal production. He had a Guardian smear in advance of the 60 minutes "revelations".

Let's see, Falsification of government documents, forgery, libel, defamation of character, FCC & FEC violations, conspiracy to commit such acts. Not to mention slandering veterans (deceased & living). Working on a profile here.... I wonder who would do such things?

I have about had it myself.

Here are some questions I have: where have these documents been? If they are personal memos, who had them? Why didn't his wife have them?

And why haven't they been brought forward before.

Yes and don't forget who gave her the pictures. David Hackworth. The guy that talks military jargon.

The person who gave them to CBS is saying that he has been working on this story for FOUR YEARS! It is the same person who started the prison "abuse" story. So in my estimation it is the DNC. They sent the story to CBS, Associated Press and the New York Times. I have heard the DNC talking points all day and everyone of them start with CBS isn't the only source for this information...blah, blah, blah.

Then, then they ignore the facts about the "note" and start in about how President Bush is "waging an illegal war", "wrong war, wrong time" and "he took us to war without a plan to win the peace". PUKE! I still don't know which dumb*ss thought that one up.

If I see John Kerry point that *amn finger (with the loooonnnngg fingernail) in my face one more time I think I am going to find him and kick his *ss. lol!

where have these documents been? If they are personal memos, who had them?

The first two questions should be the subject of an inquiry, be it via a special commission or under the regulatory authority of the FEC and/or FCC. Republican representatives shouldn't rely on FReepers, bloggers, new media, and cable talking heads to apply the pressure demanding that these questions be answered. The answers undoubtedly will put the CFR into play, together with concomitant fines, penalties, and perhaps imprisonment.

Right now the only evidence out there I'm aware of is the Prowler article that reports a DNC staffer received the documents and passed them on to CBS. If it ends there it certainly looks bad for both of them (and Kerry) but that isn't enough - far from it.

Hmmmmmm, but you would think Hackworth would know better than to use MS Word to create those memo's?

I think Dan Rather guest RAT had something to do with forging those documents

And don't you think it's odd that the DNC talking points can all be justified with those 4 pages? NOT!

Something is going on here bigger than we thought; four years? That's longer than bin Laden planned 9-11.

Who is the person who gave the papers to CBS?

It's "those Texas people": John Moore; Ben Barnes; a lot more of them.
