Questions mount on Guard memos' authenticity (Killian Signature Forgery?)
Washington Times ^ | 9/11/04 | Rowen Scarborough

Posted on 09/10/2004 9:41:43 PM PDT by kattracks

A handwriting expert says the two signatures on purported Texas National Guard memos aired by CBS News this week are not those of President Bush's squadron commander, as asserted by "60 Minutes."
Until now, press scrutiny of the memos supposedly written by the late Lt. Col. Jerry B. Killian focused on the finding that the documents were, in the opinion of experts, produced by computers not yet in use in the early 1970s.
Eugene P. Hussey, a certified forensic document examiner in Washington state, said yesterday there is another flaw in the CBS memos. Mr. Hussey studied the known signatures of Col. Killian on Air Force documents, and two signatures on documents dated 1972 and 1973 that aired on "60 Minutes" Wednesday night.

"It is my limited opinion that Killian did not sign those documents," Mr. Hussey told The Washington Times. He said he uses the phrase "limited opinion" because he does not have the original documents. He, like other experts interviewed by the press, relied on copies of originals first obtained by CBS. The White House then distributed copies of the memos in what is said was the interest of full disclosure.

[snip]

The Times provided Mr. Hussey with copies of the CBS documents, which he dubbed Q-1-3, and records known to have been signed by Col. Killian, (K-1-3).
"It is my opinion based on the examination of the Q-1 through Q-3 and K-1 through K-3, that Jerry B. Killian probably did not sign his name to Q-1 and his initial to Q-3," Mr. Hussey said in a signed letter to The Times. "As to the authenticity of the CBS documents, that is Q-1 through Q-3, [they] appear to be product of a computer, rather than a typewriter."

Oh, come on now. Lazy, stoned, and drunk people do get off the couch.

Everyone has to take a pee every now and then, and especially a drunk.

And in the case of fraud, CBS loses the protection usually allowed for protecting sources. Plus, it's a felony to lie to an FBI agent, so Danny had better be on his toes to tell the truth.

This game just moved into another level altogether . . . if the sig is a forgery. And if AG Ashcroft gives it the nod.

Hey, this is fun.

CBS never had the originals; only photocopies.

The DU crowd is in total denial. They are claiming Rather literally destroyed all the desperate attempts by Republicans to show the documents are forgeries. Have you checked out their boards? It's astounding how deceived these people are.

Well, something has to get them through the night - besides pot, booze and buggery.

Seems to me that the answer for CBS and the DNC is real simple.

Come up with the orginal documents. Have them examined by the FBI or a reputable Document analysis team and be done with it.

It's either that or admit that they are forgeries and then someone needs to go to jail.

They might not be able to. I'm kinda tired, so someone correct me if this is wrong.

The forgeries would most likely be viewed as defaming Killian by placing him in a false light. However, such suits do not survive the victim. As he is dead, no suit.

To my knowledge, CBS hasn't said anything about the surviving Killians to trigger a suit.

Although I think that CBS' involvement is despicable, I'm not sure that it could be classified as "overthrowing a sitting, wartime president" or as a "coup attempt." I haven't checked a dictionary but in my mind those terms imply removing someone from office during his term (often through violence), not working to have him defeated in an election.

I agree fully with the rest of your comments.

They are defaming the entire Killian family, IMO. The father is being used to smear the President, without his consent when he, in fact, very much liked him, thought he was a good man and a good pilot. A dead man can't defend his reputation but his family can.

"The White House handled this brilliantly"

I agree 100%...... When I heard the White House saw these forgeries and said nothing about them, other than to hand them out to the Press!.... Once again I was reminded that we have adults in the White House who know how strum the democrats, and the main stream media, like a cheap guitar.

I believe this incident will go down as the straw that broke the Back of the Kerry Campaign, unless of course Madeline Albright was correct when she wondered out loud if President Bush would drag Osama bin Laden out of the White House basement 3 weeks before election day :-)

It had never been reported before the CBS report that he refused an order to get a physical.

Now that's an interesting sentence.
