If they were serious about these documents, all they had to do was analyze the paper. If the documents are originals, or even copies from back them, it can be dated by the paper since paper manufacturing/processing has changed drastically since then. You can also investigate even further if these are copies. What types of copiers were standard in the military back then. Shoot, I can remember the copies in elementary school that had purplish ink that we used to smell. ;) Were there black ink copiers back then?
