Friday, Sept. 10, 2004 12:59 a.m. EDT Caddell: Dan Rather May Have Cost Kerry the Election
Longtime Democratic strategist Pat Caddell said Friday that if documents aired by CBS newsman Dan Rather Wednesday night turn out to be forged as alleged by experts, the presidential race "is over."
"It would be the end of the race," Caddell told Fox News Live. "It would be the end of the race," he repeated.
"[Democratic officials are] so involved in this," the former Carter pollster worried. "They have gotten themselves so involved in this issue, [in] the last 24 hours, that somebody's going to, if they're not authentic, they're going to be blamed for it. It's incredible to me that they've gotten in this." Caddell said he wasn't trying be sensationalize the issue, explaining that instead, "I'm trying to save my party, you know, by telling the truth."
He said that forfeiting the presidential race would be the least of his party's problems if Democrats are tied to any forgery scandal.
"The race is over - and we've got bigger problems than that," he warned.

Going off the cliff won't hurt Wiley Kerryote? These events are not the work of Bush so they can't be placed at his door. They are entirely the work of Kerryote, his minions and the RATmedia destroying itself through rabid hatred.
Bush has repeatedly refused to get into the personal stuff against Kerryote and constantly reminds the nation of the reasons to re-elect him.
Kool-Aid drinking RATS are no more than 35% which is the low point of his support. He will not get much more than that as this and subsequent events will drive almost all moderate, and undecided away from him.

It kind of comes down to how blatantly the Democrats will lie in order to slime Bush. Normally, there is a line which they will not cross--not because they have principles--but because they realize it will backfire. In this instance, though, they are so desperate because of the Swiftboat Vets, and the fact that Kerry is imploding, that they may have nothing to lose by trying to perpetuate the lie.

You are right, they have gone overboard on trashing Bush. Americans like moderation, that's why Clinton got away with everything he did. There was just too much that was being bought to light and Americans just shut it out as being way too over the top. (Even though in Clinton's case, most of it was true).

Caddell is a decent guy. A Dem, but I always thought his analysis, as opposed to his opinions, was pretty straight.
