I thought these memos were personal doc, from private files? And I thought Killian's widow had the papers all boxed up in her house? Was someone going through her house to get docs that they could use for templates?

That is what I wondered about. I posted this earlier today:
This issue is creating more questions than answers, so far.
CBS got the Killian docs from a secret source.
Killian's wife says Killian wasn't typically the kind of person who wrote such notes.
Killian's son says Killian wasn't typically the kind of person who kept such documents at home.
Some clarification due to later reports: the documents apparently came from:
Secret Source >> DNC/Kerry Campaign >> CBS
A report yesterday said that CBS had sent the docs to the White House and they were returned. [An FR poster speculated that that was to give CBS cover by saying they got the docs from the WH -- with CBS failing to say they gave the docs to the WH to begin with.]
Secret Source has been identified as a 'military associate' of Killian. So why did the Secret Source have Killian's personal and CYA documents? Killian's son says Killian wasn't typically the kind of person who kept such documents at home.

(His VN crumbling, he says 'move on'. So now, John Kerry is running on Bob KerrEy's Senate record.)

The family did not provide the documents.
The forgery was made up to look like it came from the Pentagon, but when Bush received his copies from CBS (Pentagon never sent him his whole file), he stated publicly it was the first time he ever saw it. Nobody answered where the document came from, but it is clear the Pentagon does not have it on microfiche (it is not from Bush's official record). If it did, then somebody in the Pentagon "created" it. I doubt it.
CBS then changed the direction to "this came from a personal file". If that is the case, then why does it have background noise as if it was printed from microfiche? It is was a first copy from an original document, it would have been clean.
Rather than kill the story, they plowed through it and didn't cover their tracks.
Nobody knows where the source document came from, nobody has seen it, CBS will not say if the document is a copy or an original.
