CBS NEWS executives have launched an internal investigation into whether its premiere news program 60 MINUTES aired fabricated documents relating to Bush's National Guard service, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.

Yep it's called Falsifying an official document.
Once a memo is placed in a record book it becomes an official document.
Someone is trying to make this into an official document, which makes it illegal.
Yes, I forgot that who you are is as important as what crime you commited. I kinda miss the old days when all that mattered was the crime, you know, the old justice is blind thing we used to have in this country.
As rod1 was saying....

I like that and I hope that sticks to them like crazy glue.
Ok Mr. Stong cannext address the fact it could not have been typed like that in 1972. Is that an inconsitency with the times? The guy is not a document expert but rather a RAT hack
I believe he's a professor of political science
Same difference.....
One and the Same....
Identical.....
Kinda like Twnkies

Dan Rather should resign or be fired !!
CBS news should fire Dan Rather for not being absolutely positively certain of the authenticity of these forged documents. We are in the absolute final leg of a Presidential election and Dan Rather rushed to press to get these dociuments on the air because he thought it would potentially help Kerry and hurt Bush. He is blinded by his partisanship and is not fit to be a journalist.
Dan Rather never even looked into where these papers came from. It was his job to be CERTAIN of their authenticity. It's fitting that Rather's career comes to an end under this cloud of his extremist partisanship. He will always be remembered for this. His legacy will be fitting....a reporter who would lie to America if it supported his Left Wing Ideology.
BITS
There's a lot of reason to get worked up about this. It's not about Bush, it's about Dan Rather going on national television with blatantly ineptly forged military documents trying to discredit a sitting president during an election. This was supposed to be the "smoking gun" against Bush; instead, it is a "smoking gun" against Rather, CBS, and quite possibly Kerry. This is so huge that Rather must out his "source", which could be extremely embarassing to Kerry - possibly enough to make Kerry drop out of the race, Rather to resign, and 60 Minutes go off the air permanently. Dude, this is HUGE. Think "Watergate".
Won't happen. None of it. Quite simply, the Dems and the major media won't allow it to happen. They all have far too much to lose and far too little integrity.
Nice dream, though, must admit.
If forged military documents created to smear a sitting president during his re-election doesn't make heads roll, this country is in big trouble.
Just heard back from CBS:
Jamie,
Thanks for your e mail. In fairness, this response is from Harvey Nagler -- not me. I'm just the lucky person who gets to do the shuttling of e mails. But I'm happy to send your question along to him.

Thank you so much Charlotte,
Any idea who gave you guys the Bush National Guard documents that I saw on 60 Minutes 2? There seems to be some suspicion...
I'm trying hard to trust your news organization. Thank you.

Dear WTMJ Listener,
Thanks for your input. We would like to draw to your attention to a few things that you may not be aware of.
Number one: The event in Washington yesterday was not a news conference, it was a media screening for the new documentary "Stolen Honor: Wounds That Never Heal."
Number two : There was apparently some misconception because Senator Dole did not attend this screening nor did he give permission for his name to be used in connection with this program.
Number three: CBS News never refused to cover this event. On the contrary, we obtained cuts of this documentary as soon as we learned of the event and placed calls to the documentary group in hopes of interviewing someone about the film.
It is always our intention to balance any political report. As an example, on Wednesday we featured White House Communications Director Dan Bartlett responding to the latest allegations about President Bush's military service record.
We at CBS News continue to strive to present both sides of every issue.
We hope you'll continue to listen to WTMJ.
Sincerely,
Harvey Nagler,
CBS News , Vice President, Radio
What did Dan Rather know, and when did the stupid bastard know it?
How fitting, Dan wants to support kerry but ends up personally nailing the final nail in the campaign coffin.
I "strongly" (yukyuk) disagree that this is the perp. Strong, having been in the ANG at that time, would have gotten the military formats right. Personally, I think this was some liberal who hadn't a clue about the military. Someone, say, like some of the Clinton hacks.
