I may be off here, but didn't McAulife say Bush refused to report for a physical in one or more of his unsubstantiated diatribes? If these documents were just obtained from a FOIA request, how did McAulife know the story before they were released?

Writing forgeries to match your lies?

"We don't know where the documents come from," he said, adding, "They didn't come from any family member."

Connell said her late husband would be "turning over in his grave to know that a document such as this would be used against a fellow guardsman," and she is "sick" and "angry" that his name is "being battled back and forth on television."

Her late husband was a fan of the young Bush, said Connell, who remarried after her husband died in 1984. "I know for a fact that this young man … was an excellent aviator, an excellent person to be in the Guard, and he was very happy to have him become a member of the 111th."

McAulife and Begala aren't exactly "quality" sources of information. I'm sure if you carefully sifted through all the things they've said in the last 4 years about Bush you can find them accusing him of all sorts of nonsense.

Kind of like Shakespeare's monkeys. If you tell enough lies about a conservative, eventually someone will forge a document which seems to support some of them. I don't think there is a specific connection here.

I'm sure there will be other forgeries as well...things like a memo from the State department telling the White house that there are no WMD's in Iraq, but they are getting pressure from Rumsfeld to keep quiet about it...or transcripts of a meeting between Cheney and lumber companies where he agrees to secretly sell them all the lumber in all the national forests but only if they promised to clear cut it all and pave afterward.

Remember who we're dealing with here.

Chairman Terry McAuliffe, who in February accused Mr. Bush of being "AWOL" in the Guard, this week vowed that Mr. Bush's tenure as a fighter pilot will be a main Democratic crusade — day in, day out — until the Nov. 2 election.
"It's going to be on the table from now until November 2," Mr. McAuliffe told reporters this week as new press reports surfaced questioning the devotion of Guard Lt. George W. Bush.
"These new documents show the president did not serve honorably, and they did not have all the documents out.

McAuliffe Statement on Breaking News About Bush's Military Record

Washington, D.C. - Responding to breaking news regarding George W. Bush's military record, Democratic National Committee Chairman Terry McAuliffe issued this statement:

"George W. Bush's cover story on his National Guard service is rapidly unraveling.

"Tonight's CBS New report made clear that President Bush has misrepresented the nature of his National Guard service for decades to the American people. And now that questions are being raised, only Bush can settle this once and for all by answering the unanswered questions about his Guard service.

"CBS News exclusively obtained documents that flatly contradict two of Bush's often repeated claims about his time in the National Guard - that he received no special treatment and that he fulfilled his duty.

"According to these new military documents, political pressure was applied and strings were pulled for President Bush at every step of the process: to get in the Guard, to stay in the Guard, and to exit the Guard.

"These are serious charges. They have not been leveled by his opponent. Or by a political party. Or by an outside group. They are based on documents from the personal files of Col. Jerry Killian, Bush's squadron commander.

"George W. Bush needs to answer why he regularly misled the American people about his time in the Guard and who applied political pressure on his behalf to have his performance reviews 'sugarcoated'?"

"Writing forgeries to match your lies?"

Apparently so, as the talking points about the memos are closer to what the Democrats have been saying, than they (the talking points about the memos) are to what the memos actually say.

IOW it is all spin.

They couldn't even make the memos PROVE their talking point allegations, as they had to make the memos believable . . .
