"old mechanics never die, they love to stick around to shock, tire and brake you!!"Thanks for the laugh... I started out 35+ years ago as a helper/apprentice machinist at Island Auto Parts, then moved next door to Newman's Auto Repair, where, due mainly to outlasting everyone else except Willie Newman, ended up as Chief Mechanic of the joint.

Glad to see that CNN (old media) is catching up with a FREEPER (new media).
It's all turning to ashes before them. The mainstream media is exposed as a bunch of frauds and liberal propagandists, the wheels have come off the Kerry campaign, the New Media is ascendant.
U.S. Servicemen React to Bush Guard Memos (AP writes story as if doc dispute weren't happening) I know of a few die-hard dems that can only spout a few words...."Bush was AWOL!" They are stuck like a broken record. And they do NOT want any facts that would exonerate the President, but they hang on Dan Rather's words as though they were made out of gold. You can show reasonable people the big discrepancies in the signatures, and they can't see it because their minds are so clouded by crap. It's disgusting. And I think it persists way outside the beltway.
The thing is, I see no support for Kerry like I would have expected. These people just want to hate Bush. The past year of bad publicity and 527 ads has fueled their fire. They are angry.
It's very worrisome that the dems have created a constituency of really angry people.
Transcript: PAT CADDELL on Fox News Live ("[Rather-Gate] could be disastrous for my party") -- the whole game plan was designed to get the Swiftees off Kerry's backside by smearing Bush with
a supposedly equivalent charge, then high mindedly call for both sides to lay off. They didn't count on the radioactive forgery exposure inside 24 hours. They just wanted a week long smear, so they made one up. They can't admit that now because the entire thing is a criminal excess of partisanship committed in blind panic over Kerry's collapsing campaign.

If you're a media buff - and who isn't, in America in 2004? - then circle Thursday, Sept. 9, on your mental calendar. Because that's the day weblogs came into their own.
The most amazing thing is that these developments could be followed in real time by anyone owning a computer.
If CBS winds up retracting, the credit will have to go to the "blogosphere," a new and powerful force in journalism. Twin Cities blogger James Lileks of www.lileks.com said it best: "The Internet smells blood and leaps, and that has turned the game around, for better or worse."
Hugh Hewitt's list of problems with CBS Documents ---
*Lt Col Killian didn't type;
*Lt Col Killian's family says he did not maintain such records;
*Guard regulations prohibited the maintenance of such records;
*General Bobby Hodges didn't vouch for the docs as CBS said he would;
*Colonel Buck Staudt --cited in the memos as pushing Killian to "sugarcoat" a Bush evaluation-- had retired more than a year before the meo was allegedly written;
*Bloggers have been overwhelmed with e-mails from active duty and retire dmilitary who scoff at the form of the memos;
*Typewriters with proportional spacing were rare in '72/3;
*Typewriters with superscripting capabilites were rare in '72/3;
*Typewriters with perfect centering ability were non-existent '72/3;
*Typewriters with the "kerning" function didn't exist in '72/3;
*Most experts, from Dr.Cartwright at Rice, the above-referenced Dr. Bouffard and Farrell Shiver, range from certain to almost certain in their conclusions that the docs are not legit;
*CBS doesn't have the "originals" and didn't reveal that fact until pressure mounted;
*The fake docs are easily and exactly reproduced on modern word-processing equipment, underscoring the ease with which the bad forgery could have been produced contrasted with the near impossibility of Lt Colonel Killian's producing them in 192/3;
*Lt Col Killian lacked motive to write and maintain such records;
*Despite intense media interest in the president's TANG career that extends back at least four years, someone sat on these docs until seven weeks before the 2004 election and after the RNC convention;
*CBS has a history of obtaining docs damaging to the Bush Adminsitration which in all likelihood came from Democratic partisans;
*CBS won't reveal its source;
*CBS has a history of blowing stories that involved fake documents; and
*Dan Rather has not appeared opposite a serious journalist to answer extended questions on camera, even though his reputation and the reputation of his network are being shredded and a confidant witness would demand a hearing with a Russert or a Hume.
They're forged as hell," said Earl W. Lively
Why should we really be surprised that the Stone-age press would stoop to using forged military documents to damage President Bush. When their new Standard bearer is Michael Moore and his tactics, false charges with no proof is the norm.
How long will we hear "It's not the documents but the story that matters"? Ridiculous!! With the Swift Boat guys then, it's not the documents but the story that matters! And they have NOT been refuted, despite the claim by nearly all in the media and every Dem out there. "Repeat something often enough, it's fact" is the only plan they have since Clinton rode into D.C. on his bus all those years ago.

Related to this forged document story, my greatest concern with the "MSM" (nothing mainstream about them, of course) has to do with the part of the disasterous Campaign Finance Reform bill that essentially gives the media control over the last 30 or 60 days of an election cycle. I believe the CFR pretty much forbids any opposition ads that could inform voters of certain aspects of a candidates record in the last month or so of an election, which leaves that job almost solely to the media. As we all know, the MSM is in fact the LM, and they will only put out negative information related to Republican cadidates during that period. Apparantly, if Documentgate is any indication, they will even make up information in order to smear a candidate. I think this incident should provide ample proof in a court of law to get this part of CFR overturned, although the infringement on the 1st amendment should have been enough to do so (thank you, SC).

This is the best analysis of the memos from a typographical perspective that I have read.
What seems to be lost in this document shuffle is intent and motive, that being to manipulate domestic/foreign perception in order to preemptively steal the election...not to mention the useful smoke-screen to divert attention from Kerry's treasonous behavior upon his return.
-more-
As it happens, though, we have not only identified the real Robert Strong, but have, through one of our readers, interviewed him.
Even though he admittedly could not vouch for the authenticity of the memos, Strong said he thought that they seemed to fit the time and the man that Killian was.
Amazing. Once again, not a single main stream newspaper or network is able to interview or identify "Professor" Strong, except for the distorted info provided by CBS itself. And the blogosphere comes through with the info.
This article is amazing to me. Think about it. A blog reader and contributor... could be your neighbor, a guy you work with... turned man on the street interviewer for the renegade internet press. Wow. Asking more intelligent questions than most MSM would think to ask or print.
Read this:
Now we have a Magic Typewriter to go with the Magic Hat!
My goodness, this is so much fun.
All of these people are out of their minds.
That is is most concise and accurate description of the Democrat party 2004 I have ever seen.
That's the media's strategy. They can't actually debunk it, because they have nothing to debunk it with. So they just say it's been proven a lie, a fraud, whatever. Their statement that it's been proven wrong is all we peons need to know.
Anyone have any idea or informed opinions about what these Kerry stories might be?

And That's The Way It Isn't (John Ellis on Rathergate) What we are looking at is a scandal, an attempt by the Democratic Party and a number of its news media megaphones to smear the President of the United States. This is potentially a big scandal; one that might do real damage to the Kerry campaign and cost Dan Rather and his producer their jobs.
Former CBS Exec. Jonathan Klein Dismisses Bloggers Here is what this guy is missing. It is not
one guy in his living room in his pajamas. It is 10,000, all with almost unlimited resources via the Net and, here is the kicker, they can all talk to each other. Some are experts in typography, some have extensive experience with MS Word, some were actually in the Guard in the early 70's.
We're amateurs. We do this in our spare time.
But we still figured it out. So what does that say about YOU?

I love this thread and all these links!Thanks, and here is more--
CBS Evening News: Questions Linger Over Bush Memos It looks like CBS is starting to buckle under the weight of the case against the forged documents. Almost all of this article, written by CBS News and posted to their own website cites much of the mounting evidence without any defense whatsoever against it. Their "sources" and "experts" seem to have run dry and they're just repeating the same pathetic indefensible case.

John Carroll should know a lot about "pseudo-journalism". It's his business.
Wesley Pruden: An Artless Scam for an Eager Buyer The documents that Dan and CBS attempted to sell to the gullible as proof that George W. Bush was a slacker, shirker and goldbrick during the Vietnam War are already regarded by everyone but Dan and perhaps one or two of his CBS colleagues as
