Are the Killian Memos a Forgery?
The media is buzzing with the possibility that the Killian memos broadcast on 60 Minutes are forgeries. The truth hangs on whether any commonly-used typewriters in the 60's-70's had proportional spacing. If you HAVE a typewriter like that, please type out a replica of Killian's first memo and see if your typewriter matches his.

yet they didn't even think about font characteristics or the superscript. If the perps are in their 30s, they just wouldn't know. After all, you can do Courier monospace in Word. And just because there's a center function doesn't mean you have to use it -- just eyeball the center, space over and backspace once for every two characters (the old way!), remember to use the lower-case L for 1's, etc.
But you'd have thought they'd at least acquire a real memo from the time and used it as a model.

Bet they forget that MANY old typewriters didn't have a "1" button: you HAD to use the "l" button!

(Of course the Air Force used typewriters with proportional spacing in 1973 for everyday typing.)

I have a KRRE Sinetheform 180, and it produced the memo perfectly.

This was one sloppy forgery. Why didn't they just cut and paste letters from the newspaper, like kidnappers used to do in the old days.

Throw in your wrong address that was almost blacked out and that General Straudt that had retired in 1972 but mentioned in the 1973 memo...the superscript, format, signatures, right margins, and letterhead perfect spacing, evenness of ink, lack of normal typewriter fingerprints(some keys higher or lower darker, lighter etc)perfect alignment, to mention a few...

I hate the thought of going to a dem sight. Makes feel slimy just to think about it. BUt if some one was so motivated they could take the next paragraph and use it how u like.
'A friend just told me-"My dad's Nelltac Premiere 6900 was able to make a memo just like the one in question! I even heard it was produced in Luxembourg and was the type writer of choice of most guard units.that had a superscript key, proportional font, a centering button, and a bad tendency to splatter ink dots all over the background of the page it was typing." He's reluctant to post his results just yet because he's afraid of what the conservatives (The servants of president chimp) might do to him. You have to spread the word! we found it!'
Something like that might do the trick. The "chimp" comment was harsh, but that really is how the Dems refer to our comander and chief on their web sites

The one thing that scares me on this is that, if this story doesn't take down CBSNEWS and Rather--as it oughta--then we've just tipped of the Dems as to how not to forge docs.
They won't make the same mistakes next time.

It wasn't even a low budget effort, it looked like a rushjob. There is a report -- Anatomy of a Forgery -- that the DNC received these documents six weeks ago.
If true, that means the forgeries weren't a panicked reaction to a brutal August. It means they were actually "in the can" at the time of the Democrat convention...

Bet they forget that MANY old typewriters didn't have a "1" button: you HAD to use the "l" button!Excellent point. I'm plenty old enough to remember that, and I would go so far as to say that "most, if not all" typewriters back then did not have a "1" key. I'd like to see a typewriter from pre-1975 that DOES have a "1" key.
To: GOPcapitalist
If you HAVE a typewriter like that, please type out a replica of Killian's first memo and see if your typewriter matches his. Insert "infinite number of monkeys typing" wisecracks here...

LOL! Go for it - seriously. Some freepers need to get creative with this one and "forge" our own little spoof of Kerry's records.

As usual, the minions at
Little Green Footballs are days ahead of the MSM and are now closing in on the identity of the source (start at message 235 or so on this string). The odds-on favorite seems to be former Texas Lieutenant Governor Ben Barnes, who recently claimed to have gotten GWB his slot in the Guard. It has not been explained why the notoriously ruthless Barnes would do an unethical favor for the son of a hated and dangerous political rival. Rather, a fellow Texan, has known Barnes personally for over 40 years, and this, together with Barnes' knowledge of the early 70s Texas National Guard, would make him a highly credible source to CBS and to Rather especially.
