Howlin, every single one of these memos to file is in a proportionally spaced font, probably Palatino or Times New Roman.
In 1972 people used typewriters for this sort of thing, and typewriters used monospaced fonts.
The use of proportionally spaced fonts did not come into common use for office memos until the introduction of laser printers, word processing software, and personal computers. They were not widespread until the mid to late 90's. Before then, you needed typesetting equipment, and that wasn't used for personal memos to file. Even the Wang systems that were dominant in the mid 80's used monospaced fonts.
I am saying these documents are forgeries, run through a copier for 15 generations to make them look old.
This should be pursued aggressively.

When all this is over, if there is major impact on the election - or if it brings down Rather or CBS - I'm going to write a book about this. Everybody please archive the threads!
IIRC, didn't the Free Republic servers crash everytime a big news story or event came up? I seem to remember being news-starved during big stories because FR would be inaccessible, since every Freeper and lurker was trying to read FR.
Just read the NYPost piece. You guys ROCK!
Bravo and well done!!
Nice work, Howlin!
"all the bells were ringin"
AND
"all the people were singin"
THEY WENT
"nah nah nah nah nah nah, nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah"
"The night they drove Dan Rather down"
MEGA CONGRATULATIONS TO
Howlin's thread
AND
Buckheads post!
THANK YOU!

No. Should be:
That is how we should type his name from now on. Dan Rather
Would have been nice if they'd have mentioned the people who discovered these "discrepencies." I saw no mention whatever of the fine researchers on Free Republic.
Check this thread too.
Thank you! I'm so glad to see these wonderful researchers getting the proper credit! Thanks also to the person who created the forum for all that terrific research--without Free Republic, none of this might have ever come to light, except in tiny, isolated groups!
This is awesome!
I haven't had time to read the whole story, but the fact that one of us was able to figure this out is truly amazing.
CBS eats dirt.
"Suggested freeper wear? Maybe FR jerseys, all #47?"
Great idea, but wouldn't a Patriots jersey be more appropriate? ;-)
I wonder how the documents came to light? If the "news" orgs (CBS) were fooled by an anonymous fabrication -- a la Registered's "old newspaper clipping" showing Hanoi John sitting at the table while Hanoi Jane was speaking -- they'll claim they're only guilty of stupidity and failure to validate. Unfortunately, Jane Soccermom and her subservient husband will accept that excuse and dismiss the whole thing as a mistake on the part of CBS.
Then, watch the Dems successfully characterize our side's "making a big deal out of nothing" as mean-spirited, vindictive, partisan politics.
We have some of the smartest and talented people anywhere. Thank you for your investigative prowess. You are a wonderful group.
I suspect the angry picket sign holding liberal believes that it is real and that republicans bought someone off. There's no talking to those types.
Well one thing for sure maybe we could get him date with Ann Coulter
