I'm not sure you're asking the pertinent question in this thread. The REAL question is, why is CBS, and the powers that be at 60 Minutes, not doing their homework? I have no idea where the documents came from, but how in the heck could a major news network come out with such a big "teaser" for a major story, without having their facts straight.

I'll give you an example of the impact of this hit piece. A friend of mine, who is "iffy" about who they are going to vote for sent me an email this morning. He talked about not having any respect for Kerry, but yet he had heard that 60 Minutes had proof that President Bush had not fulfilled his military duties. Thus, in his mind, neither candidate deserves his vote.

Obviously, this could have an impact on potential voters. If CBS and 60 Minutes don't have their facts straight, they need to be held accountable.

I hope the exposure of this fraud will put an end to the National Guard story for the rest of the election campaign (not that I really expect it to), but it seems to me that the Bush campaign has been too lackadaisical about defending the President...a large part of the public probably has no idea of the amount of time he actually did devote to flying, that his active duty was longer than the time a draftee had to spend in the army, and that he clearly more than met the minimum requirements for each year of his obligation.

I would guess that the source was someone they trusted. Further, the media has been chomping at the bit to hit back at Bush for the Swiftees. This was a golden opportunity.
