McAuliffe Statement on Breaking News About Bush's Military Record Washington, D.C. - Responding to breaking news regarding George W. Bush's military record, Democratic National Committee Chairman Terry McAuliffe issued this statement:
"George W. Bush's cover story on his National Guard service is rapidly unraveling.
"Tonight's CBS New report made clear that President Bush has misrepresented the nature of his National Guard service for decades to the American people. And now that questions are being raised, only Bush can settle this once and for all by answering the unanswered questions about his Guard service.
"CBS News exclusively obtained documents that flatly contradict two of Bush's often repeated claims about his time in the National Guard - that he received no special treatment and that he fulfilled his duty.
"According to these new military documents, political pressure was applied and strings were pulled for President Bush at every step of the process: to get in the Guard, to stay in the Guard, and to exit the Guard.
"These are serious charges. They have not been leveled by his opponent. Or by a political party. Or by an outside group. They are based on documents from the personal files of Col. Jerry Killian, Bush's squadron commander.
"George W. Bush needs to answer why he regularly misled the American people about his time in the Guard and who applied political pressure on his behalf to have his performance reviews 'sugarcoated'?"

Questions George Bush Must Answer About His Service Washington, D.C. - In response to new revelations regarding George W. Bush's military record the Democratic National Committee released a series of questions the President is obligated to answer.
Q: Why did George Bush say "I did my duty" when he missed months of duty in 1972, 73 and 74?
Q: How did George Bush avoid getting called into active service for missing months of duty in 1972, 73, 74?
Q: Why did George Bush disobey a direct order to take his physical?
Q: What standard did George Bush fail to meet when he was grounded for failing to perform at US Air Force/Texas Air National Guard Standards?
Q: Why did George Bush go above his commander's head to ensure a favorable evaluation he had not earned?
Q: Why did George Bush say he received "no special treatment" when Ben Barnes says he pulled strings to secure a Guard slot for him?
Q: Who asked Bush family friend Sidney Adger to get Bush a slot in the Guard immediately after Bush graduated and at the height of the Vietnam War?
Q: When will George Bush produce any credible witness who can attest to his service in the Alabama Air National Guard?

Bush Lied And Needs to Answer the Questions Himself
BUSH LIED: SAID HE GOT NO SPECIAL TREATMENT IN THE NATIONAL GUARD
Moderator: You are confident no influence was exercised on your behalf [in getting a spot in the Guard]? George W. Bush: I am, yeah. [1994 Texas Governor's Debate]
BUT BEN BARNES PULLED STRINGS TO GET HIM IN
Dan Rather: Barnes says he had a meeting with the late oilman Sid Adger, a friend to both Barnes and then-congressman George Bush . Ben Barnes: But he said, basically, would I help young George Bush get in the Air National Guard? Rather: Barnes says he contacted his longtime friend, General James Rose, the head of Texas' Air National Guard . Rather: And you recommended George W. Bush? Barnes: Yes, I did. Rather: You said that you did this for others, what we normally call "preferential treatment." Barnes: Oh, I would describe it as preferential treatment. [CBS "60 Minutes," 9/9/04]
BUSH LIED: SAID HE FULFILLED HIS DUTY
Bush, speaking from the Oval Office in 2004: "I'm just telling you, I did my duty." [Meet the Press, 2/8/04]
BUT HE DISOBEYED A DIRECT ORDER TO TAKE A PHYSICAL AND WAS GROUNDED
"President Bush failed to carry out a direct order from his superior in the Texas Air National Guard in May 1972 to undertake a medical examination that was necessary for him to remain a qualified pilot, according to documents made public yesterday." [Washington Post, 9/9/04]
The colonel [Killian] goes on, the "officer," meaning then-Lieutenant Bush, "has made no attempt to meet his training certification or flight physical." [CBS "60 Minutes," 9/9/04]
BUT HE TRIED TO GO OVER HIS COMMANDER'S HEAD TO GET A POSITIVE EVALUATION
In August 1972, Bush's superior officer Lt. Col. Jerry Killian notes in a memo that Bush had gone over his head and was "talking to someone upstairs" to avoid service in Alabama. [CBS "60 Minutes," 9/9/04]
> BUT HE MISSED MONTHS OF DUTY
"Yet Bush, a fighter-interceptor pilot, performed no service at all for one six-month period in 1972 and for another period of almost three months in 1973, the records show." [Boston Globe, 9/8/04]
BUSH LIED
AND THE ONLY WAY GEORGE BUSH PUTS THIS BEHIND HIM IS TO ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS FOR HIMSELF.
I'm wondering what the DNC knows and when they knew it. And why they put Mr. McDermott in charge of muckraking.
"I wonder if kerry's doing a captain queeg right now, thinking it's one giant hillary conspiracy to do him in."
Somewhere in a New York City hospital, the sound of laughter is coming from a secured private room...
I say we buy them shovels so they can dig more and deeper. BWAHAAAAAHAAAAAAHAAAAAAHAAAAAAHHAAAAAAA!!!
G-d is Great!
He never disappoints the righteous man.
I'll supply the ballbearings.
No, but the Republicans do disappoint. Will they have the sense and the moral conviction to wrap this fraud around the necks of the democrats and the leftist media, as they so richly deserve? If you stand for this, you will stand for every corrupt attempt to undermine the government.
I don't recall, but has the RNC ever released a press release demanding that Kerry answer questions about his service in Vietnam...or release his records, despite the contradictions of his own accounts?
This is where the media and the democrats have lied. From the beginning, it has been the media and McAwful who have questioned Bush's service, with McAwful accusing Bush of being AWOL. Unlike Bush who has had nothing but praise for Kerry, both McA and Kerry have even questioned the "official" record of Bush's honorable discharge, with Kerry asking Bush to "prove it" back in February.
Their desperation is so great that they and their media henchman have even dared to blame Bush for the attacks on Kerry, while the media ignores that the attacks on Bush have been directed by the candidate himself and the DNC chief. Either the media thinks that the American people are really stupid...or the America people are really stupid. I'm praying for the former.
Not really, after all they did label them new documents.
"According to these new military documents,"
Agree. I'm tired as a voter, of doing the leg work for them. Most of them need to learn to grow a spine.
In a word, NO.
This blatant fraud by the Democrat/Media machination, together with the Swift Boat Vet testimony against Kerry, AND his dismal record as the Senate's MOST LIBERAL SENATOR ought to prod the GOP into pouring it on and scoring like a pinball machine.
Instead, the RNC is playing Prevent Offense/Defense and trying their best to snatch defeat out of the hands of victory.
A senior CBS official, who asked not to be named because CBS managers did not want to go beyond their official statement, named one of the network's sources as retired Maj. Gen. Bobby W. Hodges, the immediate superior of the documents' alleged author, Lt. Col. Jerry B. Killian. He said that a CBS reporter read the documents to Hodges over the phone, and that Hodges replied that "these are the things that Killian had expressed to me at the time."
"These documents represent what Killian not only was putting in memorandum, but was telling other people," the CBS News official said. "Journalistically, we've gone several extra miles."

Nah, they won't choke .... they're good at Deep Throat.
Perhaps I missed it somewhere but when did President Bush ever say this? To my knowledge he has never talked, or bragged like Kerry, about his time in the Guard.
Yeah, and GWB and his advisors have never won an election or snookered any of his opponents before...
C'mon, give him some credit for having accomplished a little more than the rest of us have!
Ahhhhh.. the jedi mind trick worked! ... Now that we have the MSM's attention, would Mr Kerry care to answer a few questions regarding the swiftvets?
