LOS ANGELES - Cleaning up the budget mess in state government will require additional measures to boost revenue as well as economic growth, a key Schwarzenegger administration official said Wednesday.

"We can't grow our way out of" the so-called structural deficit, Donna Arduin, director of the state Finance Department, told an audience of about 250 gathered for the release of the influential quarterly economic forecast from UCLA's Anderson School of Management.

In a rare acknowledgment of the intractability of the state's budget problems, Arduin said that the administration must find "ways to continue to grow revenue."

"She said her comments on growing revenue were not meant to signal any new willingness to consider tax hikes by an administration that has made opposition to new taxes a benchmark of its budget and economic policies.

But, if you listened to left-wing media today, you would have sworn that she had said that taxes were going up tomorrow. Arnold will never allow a tax increase, and spending will be cut, even if it is draconian.

Bring on draconian, Please!

We missed that the first budget cycle for the new Gub. ;-)

Folks across the state are already seeing the waves of new local&parcel taxes being proposed and enacted. Prop 13 is the root of all evil is the mantra of many who seeks it repeal.

The least we could do is keep the state out of the feeding frenzy for new revenue... but the love of socialism still is an overpowering urge for many here in power in California.

Arduin said that the administration must find "ways to continue to grow revenue."
Dear Ms. Arduin,

There are two columns... the revenue column, and the expense column.
Might I suggest you take a look at the latter for the proper solution.

You're welcome.

Rumor is, Arnold will announce a plan to cut taxes instead. At that announcement, I expect to see John Burton's head explode.

Others at the event had their own ideas about tax policy. Anderson School economist Christopher Thornberg argued bravely that California's overall tax burden was about average among the 50 states, but distributed unwisely by a progressive income tax and regressive property tax that put the main burden on entrepreneurs and the most productive workers.

"Proposition 13, that has to go," he said, noting that it was his job to address the "economic realities" of the state's situation and leave the politics to others.

Another attack on Prop 13. Great. Tax us out of our homes. And the next paragraph discusses raising the top tax rates to 11%. I foresee more U-Hauls heading for Nevada.

My recommendation:

Let Donna Arduin work for no salary or benefits...

Same for all the toads who attended her seminar at the UCLA Anderson School Of Management...

This just in...(AP)...

At 4:00 p.m. PDT, thousands of Californians near the UCLA Anderson School Of Management began booing inexplicably, today. One eyewitness said the outburst may have been due to another poor salute by Candidate John Kerry. Prior to the salute attempt, Kerry had announced that he would have conducted the Civil War "almost entirely differently", never allowing Scarlett O'Hara to be reduced to digging in topsoil.

CBS News, however, is reporting that the booing in California was precipitated by their release of another forged document, reportedly from the military records of President Bush.

Passing by was motorist Rodney King, who had no comment, but did grace the crowd with an eloquent "Booooooo!"
