HUGH HEWITT REQUESTS A THREAD
9-8-04 | dfu

Hugh Hewitt has done a magnificent job this afternoon on the Killian memos. He requests that the FReeper do a thread citing what the Globe and others said before they knew it was a fraud. Have at it.

Was the document created in MS Word?

Nobody knows.

But if it matches the word-wrap of MS Word exactly, odds are it was done on a machine that used the same paragraphing algorithm as MS does.

Which wouldn't be unusual - nearly all typesetting systems today, and the best typesetting systems for quite some time, have used a variant of Knuth's algorithm.

Which was first published in 1981.

Adobe has used Knuth's algorithm for 15 years, now. Microsoft for I don't know how long.

So it's not at all suprising that a word-processing or type-setting system would layout the text similarly to what MS Word would - if that word-processing or type-setting system had been developed after 1981.

It's close to an impossibility that a word-processing or type-setting system that predated 1981 would do so. Knuth's was the first to consider the layout of the entire paragraph when determining line-breaks. Which is what the typesetters had always done.

But no automated system prior to 1981 did so. Particularly no typewriter, no matter how sophisticated.

And no typist would manually lay out a paragraph while they were typing and break where Knuth's algorithm would break, except by random chance.

"Is it time to demand Rather's resignation?"

How about jail time for all the principals and massive fines to all CBS afilliates who spread the lies in an attempt to tamper with the US election?

Hugh said he's repeating the interview at the end of his show.

You can listen on the 'net. KRLA 870 Los Angeles and other stations.

CBS or whoever forged these docs could be charged with the forgery of a government document a FEDERAL offense.

The Swift Boat Vets web site is reporting that Barnes' son has just been on a talk show and stated that he believes that the documents that CBS have are a mixture of genuine and fakes. How would he believe this unless his old man wasn't the source for Dan Rathers "scoop"? I believe Barnes dragged them along to bolster his credibility with Rather whose hatred for Bush blinded him to the danger of accepting the documents at face value. By the way, Barnes daughter, on another talk show today, disputed her old man's claim that he had recommended Bush for the Reserve. Man, what a dysfunctional family - the son and daughter immediately diss the old man's version of events.
Rather is toast, as is Kerry.

You're starting to think like Michael Moore... In a way that's a good thing because it lets us prepare for their spin to get out of the latest hole they've dug for themselves....

Dan Rather is so unpatriotic that he would knowingly promote a fraud to harm the President.

If there can be a huge fine for Janet Jackson's naked boob, there can be an even bigger fine for this deliberate fraud perpetrated on our President.
