Here's a theory. (First let me say, I hope these documents are fake, just to discredit CBS and Dan Rather; but even if they are genuine, they're not terribly damaging in my opinion.) Anyway, what if the original "personal" files were handwritten. Perhaps the guy thought he would be famous some day, so he formalized the memos some time in the 80s or 90s, using a modern word processor. Is there anything to stop this "excuse" from being offered up by RatherBiased Dan?
Oops, since he died in '84, he would have had to "formalize" them before that time.
Not if he can produce the originals.(;>)
I believe an FR post says this memo writer died in 1984
Yep. My theory too. There's nothing in these that contradicts Bush. The writer died in 1894 but it looks like these were created on a PC c.1980
I think they were transcribed from memory or contemporaneous notes. So, both sides may be right. The documents are not originals from 1973 but they are accurate.
They completely agree with the story that President Bush has always given.
OK, but supposedly the "author" of these documents died in 1984. Maybe he did have Microsoft Word 82 on his desktop computer. I guess I'll check out the website he was working on at the time. Or perhaps Dan Rather has Killian's Blackberry with the cell phone numbers programmed in.
