It's the candidate who counts (another rip on Kerry)
Boston Globe ^ | September 9, 2004 | Joan Vennochi

Posted on 09/09/2004 11:50:31 AM PDT by Cableguy

IT'S THE candidate, not the consultants. A new circle of advisers can hand John Kerry a new line of attack, such as stating that the W in his opponent's name stands for "wrong." But they can't stop Kerry from holding up a rifle he received as a gift while visiting Racine, W. Va., and quipping, "I thank you for the gift, but I can't take it to the debate with me."

Consultants can persuade Kerry to recycle Howard Dean's effective critique of the conflict in Iraq as "the wrong war in the wrong place at the wrong time." But they can't erase Kerry's recent statement that he would vote for the war knowing what he knows today, nor can he eliminate his litany of back-and-forth statements regarding Iraq and Saddam Hussein. (See the link to kerryoniraq.com on the Republican National Committee website.)

Democrats continue to believe that if only they put the right people in the back room or on the candidate's airplane, they will defeat George W. Bush. Strategy counts, but the candidate counts more. Bill Clinton, not James Carville or Paul Begala, won election and reelection.

I'm guessing you have not read much else she's written. Joan Vennochi is one of the most consistently left-wing columnists in the Globe's stable.

This column was not written by a conservative blasting Kerry. It was written by a progressive leftist who is writing about her anger and despair over Kerry's slow-motion meltdown.

I watch John Kerry at the silly midnight rally in Springfiel OH .It seems to me that Kerry and Edwards just finished drinking a few beers..And both exhibit no enthusiasm, no conviction...

Joan Vennochi? Conservative?

I don't thinnnk so...

She loved Clinton. And she would've preferred Dean this time around.

She's never liked Kerry. But that doesn't make her conservative.

Oh the Rag'in Cajun and Totally-Tipsy Texan will not like this. They certainly act like they are the sole reason Clinton won election (after they spewed their vile propaganda throughout the land over and over).

Dissing the IMUS-promoted snake and his compatriot is just not done--but how enjoyable to see it!!

It's the candidate that counts, and he's known by the company he keeps.

I have only read her columns on and off for the past year. Almost all of them were anti-Kerry. So are you telling me that she is a liberal, but she rips on Kerry? Did she support Gore in 2000?

Clueless eastern liberal reporterette, it was a shotgun, not a rifle. One that Kerry cosponsored legislation, S.1431, would ban no less.

And Clinton before that.

This year, I believe, her guy was Howard Dean.

On the other hand, she apparently fingered Kerry as an opportunistic jerk a long time ago.

I'm sitting here, just fooling around with images, and it strikes me all of a sudden that this is the best the Democraps could do after September the 11th of 2001?

The asylum has no walls....
