I opened Microsoft Word, set the font to Microsofts Times New Roman, tabbed over to the default tab stop to enter the date 18 August 1973, then typed the rest of the document purportedly from the personal records of the late Lieutenant Colonel Jerry B. Killian.
And my Microsoft Word version, typed in 2004, is an exact match for the documents trumpeted by CBS News as authentic.

Excellent work, IncPen. Absolutely stunning. This is seriously huge.
Holy steamin' Frijoles!
In WORD 2000 on the font menu, you can raise the "th" superscript. Highlight the "th", right click, choose font and go to the character spacing tab. There you can raise the characters by however many points you want.
These memos are FORGED.
Thanks.
Is there any significance in the heading being centered and the body and closing of the letter being in block?
RUSH IS REPORTING THIS NOW!
LOL. The Kerry's campaign's greta hope is torpedoed.
Sounds like we may have them by the "balls".
the person who did the comparison said when they printed the document, the 'th's did line up. There was a difference between the screen font and the printed font.
Unless Killian had a stroke (no joke, strokes do change handwriting), those signatures are NOT a match.
That's not good enough. If CBS is going to sell this snakeoil to the public, they've got to come clean. Where did they get these papers? It would be one thing if there were not doubt about the authenticity, as in the case of the Pentagon Papers. Here, though, there is significant doubt. They are telling us their opinion as to the authenticity. They should back it up with the facts. Who gave them to them? How much did they pay? Where is the rest of the "personal office file"? They are holding back.
Is it possible for purposes of legible graphics for their piece that 60 minutes re-typed and fake aged the actual documents for purposes of production? This kind of thing has happened before. The image we are discussing may not be the actual document...

Good work. The letters look identical. Have you checked for differences in the white space. If the white space between the words and between the sentences is identical in both instances you may be on to something.
I got nausea while staring at your "dissolve" post at #69.
Here's Drudge's graphic on this story:
But you ARE right; if CBS can be completely discredited, fine; but there are REAL fish to fry.
Drudge is breaking the story, no ozone needed.
BWahahahah!!!
I submitted a tip to drudgereport last night at 2:30am outlining these arguments exactly. I can confidently say I submitted this tip!! WhooHoo the Internet is a great thing!!
The IBM Selectric had a ball head with even spacing. To get proportional spacing you needed an IBM Executive. They were available at least from the early 60's and through the 70's. They were not easy to use - especially if you needed to make corrections. They were expensive and would not be used for volume typing and definitely not used for filling out forms. If the document has proportional spacing it was not typed on a Selectric.
Could just be the space allowed in Signature block, the one above is "open" space. although the dotting of the "i" is pretty different.
