Al Gore on Thursday described Vice President Dick Cheney's remark that ``the wrong choice'' by voters could result in another terrorist attack as ``a sleazy and despicable effort to blackmail voters with fear.''
In remarks prepared for a speech to the United Steelworkers of America, the former vice president accused President Bush and Cheney of using fear to promote their re-election because they have what he called a ``failed record'' on the economy, health care and the war in Iraq. ``The claim by Bush and Cheney that the American people must give them four more years in office or else be 'hit hard' by another terrorist attack is a sleazy and despicable effort to blackmail voters with fear,'' Gore said.``They are going back to the ugliest page in the Republican playbook: fear,'' he said. ``They're not even trying to convince you to vote for George Bush. Their only hope is to try and make you too afraid to vote for John Kerry. It's the lowest sort of politics imaginable.''
Cheney told supporters in Des Moines, Iowa, on Tuesday that, if Kerry were elected, the United States risked falling back into a ``pre-9/11 mind-set'' that terrorist attacks are criminal acts that require a reactive approach.
``It's absolutely essential that eight weeks from today, on Nov. 2, we make the right choice, because if we make the wrong choice then the danger is that we'll get hit again and we'll be hit in a way that will be devastating from the standpoint of the United States,'' Cheney said.
Gore joined other Democrats, including Kerry and running mate John Edwards, in condemning Cheney's statement. President Bush declined to discuss the issue with reporters on Wednesday. White House spokesman Scott McClellan said Cheney was talking about differences in how Bush and Kerry would approach the war on terror.
Scream and slobber when you say it Al.
Shouldn't this guy be in a rubber room?
The only sleazy thing here is Algore's deliberate misreprensentation of what VP Cheney actually said. But that's par for the course for the Rats.
Yeah, right. This is why the Dems are so widely know as The Party of Hope, Joy, and Optimism.
Except for the NOT!
I'm thinking more every day that they should be known as The Party of WAAHHH!
Dan
Will somebody PLEASE put this guy in a padded cell.
On the other hand scaring seniors that Republicans are going to take away their social security and medicare and throw them into gulags isn't using fear to garner votes.
Ah, wait, I see, if it's true then it's fear tactics, if it's not then it's just politics.
Hey Gore...did you FORGET what happened on 9-11????
I guess you did, you close minded idiot. Al Gore needs to WAKE UP from his coma, and take a big dose of reality.
I want to see his words rewritten in lisps.
Who's Al Gore?
And the Dems are going to poison the water, starve the chidren and cast the elderly into the street. Oh wait, that's what Dems say about Republicans. Never Mind.
"Who's Al Gore?"
I think he used to live in Cheney's house, but he got kicked out.
But Cheney can't say the wrong choice of President could reduce our safety at a time of war. I get it, a stone cold double standard.
Oh hey isn't that the guy who cried when he lost the 2000 election? Sore/Loserman 2000. He's trying to make a name for himself so he can run on the Hitlery ticket in 08. It will be Clinton/Gore 08, that sounds familiar.
"He betrayed this country.
He played one our fears."
I think he confused this statement with the one on scaring seniors about health care and the impending all-pet-food diet.
Fat, dumb and stupid is no way to go through life Al Gee.
Dude is so irrelevant. He HAS to scream/rant to be heard.
