Don't mess with Miss Kitty. You might get scratched. Scandal impresario Kitty Kelley is suggesting that CNN's Larry King won't let her on his show to promote her upcoming book, "The Family: The Real Story of the Bush Dynasty," because he's a toady of the Bush family. "I realize how important the Bushes are to Larry," Kelley E-mailed me. "He does not want to lose their friendship or offend them in any way. And having me on his show would probably anger the family, because they made their feelings clear from the beginning ... when the former President Bush called my publisher [Doubleday] and said he did not want this book written and would not cooperate in any way. So I certainly understand Larry's refusal to book me." King couldn't be reached for comment yesterday. But Jean Becker, top aide to the ex-President, confirmed that she phoned Doubleday President Stephen Rubin in November 2002 to decline Kelley's request for an interview with "41." "I did make the point that the Bush family would not be talking to Kitty Kelley because she did not have a reputation as a reputable journalist," Becker told me, adding that she did so on her boss' instructions. "We were surprised that a publishing house like Doubleday would publish this book." As for King, Kelley wrote me: "Please know that I'm not grousing - privately or publicly. I understand that it's Larry's show and he calls the shots. Of course, I'll miss being on with him because he's a great host and I've done his show for every one of my books in the past, plus appearing many times for him to discuss the [British] royals, but there is no grousing on my part. None. "As the former President Bush would say, 'Wouldn't be prudent.'" Meow.Kitty smells a rat at CNN
...then there was the time Larry and George snorted coke together......
Sharon Bush tried to back away yesterday from quotes Kitty Kelley attributes to her in her new slice-and-dice book on the Bush family - but she may have backed into a smoking gun.
In her book "The Family: The Real Story of the Bush Dynasty," Kelley claims that the blond beauty told her: "[George W.] Bush did coke at Camp David when his father was President, and not just once, either."
Sharon, who was married to President Bush's brother Neil for 24 years and is the mother of model Lauren Bush, released a statement through her lawyer, David Berg:
"I categorically deny that I ever told Kitty Kelley that George W. Bush used cocaine at Camp David - or that I ever saw him use cocaine at Camp David. The one time I met in person with Kitty Kelley, she mentioned drug use at Camp David. I responded by saying something along the lines of, 'Who would say such a thing?'"
Earlier, White House spokeswoman Claire Buchan told us: "We haven't seen the book, but based on reports, it's obvious that it's filled with garbage that has been discredited, disavowed and dismissed years ago."
But Sharon has one small problem: There was a third party at the lunch, an unimpeachable source who agreed to speak with us on condition of anonymity, who says Kelley's quotes are accurate.
"We met at the Chelsea Bistro on April 1, 2003," says our insider. "It was a very long lunch. Sharon was talking about affairs in the Bush family ... [that they are] very dysfunctional. She said they talk about family values, but they don't practice what they preach.
"Then Kitty raised the drug issue," our source continues. "Kitty, who can make a rock talk, said: 'I know about the drugs. I know that W did drugs at Camp David during his father's presidency.'
"Sharon agreed. She said, 'Absolutely. That's all true.'"
Meanwhile, Kelley's associate publisher Suzanne Herz said: "Doubleday stands fully behind the accuracy of Ms. Kelley's reporting, and believes that everything she attributes to Sharon Bush in her book is an accurate account of their discussions."
"The day following this lunch, in the presence of her editor, Peter Gethers, Ms. Kelley had a subsequent telephone conversation with Sharon Bush which lasted approximately 1-1/2 hours. Ms. Kelley has notes to corroborate both of these conversations."
Righhhhhht.
The Washington Post reports this morning that Sharon Bush denies telling Kitty Kelly that President Bush used drugs years ago at Camp David. (Can't link the article at this time....sorry).

It must suck to be Sharon Bush..
Wow. We could see Kerry go down another couple of points after this news gets out. Gee, I wonder if Katie still plans on doing her 3 day Kitty fest now that the source she quotes in her book denies it.
Do you think this will blow over?
I had a friend in Houston who knew her in the early '90's--said then that Sharon is an "air-head."

Good Lord. It sounds like Kitty's the one who's into heavy drug use.
Off topic..but does anyone know how Noelle's doing?..hopefully she's continuing the path of recovery..
I'm looking forward to getting my copy of POISON: the Unauthorized Biography of Kitty Kelley (Amazon) for the dirt on Kelley.
I haven't heard anything which probably means she's doing well. If she was having continuing problems, Old Media would be sure to report it :-)
LOL! I usually don't comment on these kinds of things but, That's HILLARIOUS!!
It just may be true that Kelly had a witness to this Sharon Bush drug conversation. Who is the witness and how truthful? This is a tell all book isn't it?
