I read another thread that predicted the media would refrain from showing footage of the World Trade Centers, the Pentagon, etc, from 9-11, so as not to muster any support for Bush. Whether it gives Bush a bounce or not is not the issue. (Although I wouldn't be disappointed.) The issue is remembering those who were lost, and the families who still miss them... the heroes who went into the towers to rescue others, and never made it out...the heroes in Pennsylvania and the Pentagon.
Americans said we would "NEVER FORGET". We even put it on posters and banners and bumper stickers. Unbelievably, a good deal of Americans have forgotten how horrific it was. I guarantee you terrorists haven't forgotten, and would gladly do the same, or worse, again. (Preaching to the choir, here) This is why our national security IS and MUST BE the most important issue in this campaign.
Perhaps Freepers (100,000 strong?) should send our e-mail lists a link or two to online tributes to the victims of that horrible attack. (Thwart the media's efforts.) Post links to the best online tributes you have found. Let this thread be a resource for those of us who would like to send out links to 9-11 tributes.

I did see a tribute

I've had this sent to me many times in the last three years and it hasn't failed to choke me up.
I suggest that we all send this everyone we know icluding the media. Maybe they'll get the message.

One pretty amazing site is
Sonic Memorial Don't be discouraged by who runs it... in fact, it may remind the left how they felt that day
SonicMemorial.org is an open archive and an online audio installation of the history of The World Trade Center. We are continuing to collect stories, ambient sounds, voicemails, and archival recordings to tell the rich history of the twin towers, the neighborhood and the events of 9/11.
Led by NPR's Lost & Found Sound, The Sonic Memorial Project is a cross-media collaboration of more than 50 independent radio and new media producers, artists, historians, and people from around the world who have contributed personal and archival recordings. To date, we have gathered more than 1,000 contributions, many of which have been woven into feature stories by Lost & Found Sound and broadcast on NPR.

My boys and I are making something for the fire fighters down the street, then I'm donating blood, then we're going to a Classic Car show that's a benefit for Blue Star Mothers.

The past two morning on my drive to work, I've heard two similar 9-11 tributes on our local FM talk radio station. The first was a compilation of reactions as the attacks were unfolding dotted with excerpts of President Bush's speech of (I believe) September 20, 2001. The second was similar, however it featured comments about 9-11 by Tony Blair. At the end, the only sponsorship mentioned was the call sign of the radio station. These two tributes were strong reminders of that horrible day, both bringing tears to my eyes. President Bush's comments were so reassuring, you could just feel his determination to protect our country. They were better than any ad BC04 could come up with; however, they were obviously not advertisements. Have any of you heard these tributes?

I'm in the minority of Freepers, I suspect, in that i don't care for these extended tributes, memorials, etc.
These tend to lead to a mindset of protracted angst, and does little to move us forward and take the steps that we should take, contented in living in the misery of the past.
The mind ends up enjoying the angst and the comfort it brings. This dovetails with an unpopular point I have made about post 911 America - that there was no extended sentiment based on patriotism and nationalism, but rather for about 33-50% of the electorate it was a short lived symptom of self pity and self centeredness.
That's why it dissolved so quickly with so many people. For too many Americans, they were being fearful and feeling sorry for themselves, even if they actually suffered little or no damage from the 911 attacks.
I didn't but it from the beginning and don't buy it now. Clearly, 1/3 to 1/2 of America needs something much more horrifying to stir a real nationalist spirit. I don't know what that is, though.
