I have contributed to the Swift Boat Vets on two different occasions. Today, when I opened my e-mail, there was a thank you note from them, along with news of upcoming ads they will be running. I clicked on the link to contribute again. As I look back, I realize the form didn't look the same and I never looked at the header. (my mistake) However, I filled it out and contributed $50.00.
When the completed form popped up, I nearly had a heart attack!! I had contrubuted $50.00 to the Democrat National Party, complete with John Kerry's picture. I immediately called my credit card company to have it removed. I was told I must wait until I receive the bill to dispute the "contribution".
To those of you who will be contributing to the Swift Boat Veterans, PLEASE BEWARE the Democrats have a little pop up scam going. I will making phone calls in the morning to alert radio talk shows et al if this outrageous SCAM.

I got the same thing. I sure didn't seem like a scam to me. My email looks exactly like the one posted in this thread. Someone please do some more checking to make sure it's legit.

I checked the email addy from their website against the one on the confirmation I got. They're identical.
I would like to extend my sincere and personal gratitude for your generous contribution to Swift Boat Veterans for Truth. I am sure you have seen the impact your contribution has had on the public discussion surrounding Senator Kerry's fitness for duties as Commander-in-Chief. You have helped us to raise awareness of these important issues - and the American people are beginning to respond.
We would not be where we are today, with what we have accomplished, without your help. Our mission is far from over, however.
John Kerry's campaign - aided by a sympathetic media - has responded to our work by evading our criticisms and turning up the volume on their attacks. They have attempted to discredit our efforts by falsely tying us to the Bush campaign.
Their attacks will only get louder and more strident because they know that, on the merits, we cannot lose.
Our work has struck a chord with the American people, including many Vets, who have come to the Swift Boats web site and pledged their support. You have already done so much to help us, but I'm here now to ask you to help once more. We are at a critical point in this effort and we must keep our ads - including some new ones which I think you'll really appreciate on the airwaves in key battleground states. We are up against the big guns, and we now need to make sure they can't drown us out.
For this reason, I am asking you to consider matching your previous contribution. If that's not possible at this time, every little bit helps. The quickest way to donate is by clicking on the logo below:

After I sent money on my credit card, nothing out of the ordinary happened. In a few minutes I got this response to my contribution:
I agree with you. Seems a bit odd, especially since no one else is reporting anything like this. I checked my recent emails from swiftboat vets, and they all checked out ok.
Click on the link again and see if it takes you to the DNC site again, that will tell you the email is a forgery, if it doesn't then maybe it is some spyware thing like someone else said, or maybe your spouse is a closet dem and is playing with your mind? ;)
What did the CC company rep say? Where was the money going?
To the DNC or Swift Vets?
Welcome sleddogs!
This is the exact email that was sent out today by Swift Boat Veterans for Truth. I know this because I'm the guy who did it. The donation link in this email is correct. It does not go to the DNC, it goes to swiftvets.com. The best explanation for what happened is that SDR has an adware trojan that popped up the DNC site when he clicked on the link to swiftvets.

I just handed a check to John O'Neill today at lunch and eliminated the middleman.
Oh For Crying Out Loud
Please get a hold of yourselves fellow freepers!!!
The email I received from the swiftvets is perfectly good and I'm sure the ones that all of you received are good also. This is a hoax and judging by the attention and panic I see in this thread it is working to keep the donations to the Swift-Vets to a minimum. Do you seriously think (regardless of how vile the RATS are) that they are stupid enough to engage in out right felony fraud? Fraud that is a piece of cake to prove!
If you are still worried and want to contribute, simply go to the SwiftVets main site at: http://www.swiftvets.com/ and donate from there. When you get there, the page will look like the one below.

I just received this:

Do we have anything definitive yet?
A warm welcome to Free Republic and thanks for your terrific first post ;-)
That's the email I rec'd also
The Swift Vet email and link is legit... it looks like SDR has a hostile adware program that redirects someone to the DNC if they try to go to the swiftvets site.
Pretty low and skanky...
If two e-mails were sent, compare the timing. Mine, which I believe is legit, was sent at 2:07p today.
Just a suggestion.
Call your credit card company. Explain that you need to arrange now to deny payment on that charge and that you also need signed hard copy documentation of that now. If they won't do this, cancel the credit card, shut down any autopay bank account that pays off on that card and notify your department of consumer affairs (or equivalent agency in your state) of the fraud. Be sure to mention all relevant IP addresses, providers, web masters, etc. They are potentially liable as well.
This is exactly what I would do. For whatever it's worth.
