If this is correct, report it to the consumer fraud division of your state attorney general's office (assuming they can be trusted).

What is the transactions ID#?!

There is a customer number for the person, company or organization on the receipt which identifies them through their bank. What they did is a FELONY!

I have another number for you. 202 863 8000 This is the DNC customer service line where they can help you with this credit card dispute. M-F 9-5 EST.

You likely can get this billing error corrected much more quickly dealing directly with the DNC.

You will get a low level operator first. Take your time with this person but figure you will eventually want to get to a supervisor. But don't ask for a supervisor right away.

Explain in a very polite manner and tone what the situation is. Don't make an accusation. You are asking for their help. Talk very slow and keep the lowly operator tied up as long as you can and until you can hear in her voice that she is tiring of this story. Be Gommer Pile nice. Repeat yourself as much as possible.

Then say, I wonder if it would be better if I explained this to a supervisor. Is there one available?

When you get the supervisor, keep up the Gomer routine and be just as long but throw in I sure would like to get this card transaction reversed right now. If they tell you they will call you back, say, it's okay, I can wait. I don't mind holding. They will say it will be a long hold. Tell them that is okay. You can wait.

Sorry if sounds like I am talking down to anyone. Just trying to explain the tactic that seems to work really well in situations where you need to get something done like this.

Eventually they may insist that they call you back. Ask them what time. You have a dog that is sick and you have to be sure the dog is in the bathroom when the phone rings otherwise it will get scarred by the phone ringing and mess on the floor.

If they don't give you a time, ask them if you can call back in 20 minutes. Will that be enough time, ask them.

Gee Shucks, I'm going on too long here.

That is not true. The proceeds from the book do NOT go back to the Swift Vets and CANNOT be used for advertising costs.

That's the text, but not the html behind it. ie. if you copy this post you will get the text, but not the html that tells the browser what and how to display it.

If you right click on the email itself you should get a drop down bar with the choice to view source. If you click on that you can see the email html. Then you can copy all that and post it. The html won't show on FR, but it will show if any FReepers right click to view the source of this thread page. It should then show the swiftvet spoof site.

Also, your email program has an option to show all headers. You can use that to show all the info about the source and identity of the sender. That can also be copied and posted.

No one at the DNC would do this, because it opens them up for criminal charges. The identity of the criminals lies in the spoof site and in the email header(email source id info). In order for you to make a donation to the DNC you must have been at their site and saw their html and logo. Since you did not, you gave your cc info to a spoof site. Criminals now have your name and info.

I just went to the www.swiftvets.com site and made a contribution, and got confirmation that it went to the right place.

You know what, SDR, your unenviable situation may end up being one of the best things that ever happened to the Swift Vets and thus to the Bush campaign. I hadn't donated to the Swift Vets until today, and it was knowing that the Democrats had stolen your money (which I'm sure you'll be able to get back as soon as it shows up on your credit card statement) that finally convinced me to take the plunge. Since it appears from this thread that I'm far from being the only person to give to the Swift Vets because of the Democrats' illegal tactics, I think President Bush owes those dirty scheming RATs a debt of gratitude. : )

I have called my credit card company. They said I cannot remove the transaction until I receive the bill and dispute the charge. Any suggestions?

Although difficult to undo, it is UNTRUE that you have to wait to file a dispute. Ask for a supervisor at your CC company if you get this answer. You are a victim of fraud. Supervisors have the power to basically do anything to keep you, their customer, happy.

Why is "DNC" listed as your source, and why underneath your original post where it says "read more," is democrats.org listed?

Call your credit card company NOW and demand they cancel the transaction.

....And sue the website for mail fraud. Call your local police and advise them, this is a federal offence if it is mail fraud over state lines.

I agree, we're looking at an adware hijack here, not some sort of email fraud.

SDR, can you try replicating what happened up until the point where you were prompted to enter and submit your credit card number (you don't want to do that again ...)? Take screen captures (hit the print screen key and then paste the image into a Word, or WordPad or Paint file) of each step and document what you did.

Also, do NOT attempt to run AdAware or any other "cleaning" software on your PC before you do the above and contact authorities about the hijack ... the adware program doing this could be one of many varieties out there right now, and you don't want to remove the evidence of what happened, or your ability (or that of law enforcement) to replicate what happened.

Good luck!

Seems like fraud to me.

That is what the Democrat Part is.

They operate on lies, deceit, hatred, fraud, and treachery.

Without those, you would not have a Democrat Party.

Honesty, decency, and principals are foreign terms to them.

To be sure I just called my bank and they verified that the charge was to Swift Boat Veterans. That's all the information they could give me at this moment.

I also went to swiftvets.com and sent them an email asking them to confirm my contribution and to alert them of this scam.

It is illegal. Copy info forward to your State Attorney General. I have already to the Florida AG - they state it is illegal and will look into it.

Call your credit card company and get the transaction ID number. Then call the DNC and demand they cancel the charge immediately. Follow up with a written request to them.

The FTC works for the consumer to prevent fraudulent, deceptive and unfair business practices in the marketplace and to provide information to help consumers spot, stop, and avoid them. To file a complaint or to get free information on consumer issues, visit www.ftc.gov or call toll-free, 1-877-FTC-HELP (1-877-382-4357); TTY: 1-866-653-4261. The FTC enters Internet, telemarketing, identity theft, and other fraud-related complaints into Consumer Sentinel, a secure, online database available to hundreds of civil and criminal law enforcement agencies in the U.S. and abroad.

I had a nasty trojan that was hijacking my search engines and even hijacking free republic. It took me a couple of weeks to get rid of it. I was getting ads to donate to Kerry too. Fat chance. I think I finally got rid of all of it. Run ad-aware, spybot, and norton. Each of them found different bugs. Make sure you turn on the Show Hidden Files feature before you scan. Good luck.

Oh and make sure you update the software. The last update is what finally cleaned things up for me. I was ready to torch my PC, so the update was just in time.
