Statement by Rep. Rob Portman (R-OH)

COLUMBUS, OH – Rep. Rob Portman (R-OH) today issued the following statement:

"John Kerry said a few weeks ago that he still would have voted in favor of the Iraq war knowing what he knows today, but is now parroting Howard Dean's anti-war rhetoric.

“Winning the War on Terror demands principled and consistent leadership, not changing positions motivated by politics. This is the same John Kerry who voted against 87 billion dollars in funding to equip our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan with essential supplies like body armor, despite previously calling that vote 'irresponsible.' Kerry now tells voters he is 'proud' of voting against giving our troops what they needed and calls it a 'complicated' decision; but Ohioans realize there's nothing complicated about supporting troops at war."
