Russia prepared for pre-emptive strikes on 'terror bases' worldwide

MOSCOW (AFP) - Russia is prepared to make pre-emptive strikes on "terrorist bases" anywhere in the world, the Interfax news agency cited the country's chief of staff as saying. "With regard to preventive strikes on terrorist bases, we will take any action to eliminate terrorist bases in any region of the world. But this does not mean we will carry out nuclear strikes," General Yuri Baluyevsky said Wednesday. Baluyevsky added that Russia's choice of action "will be determined by the concrete situation where ever it may be in the world. "Military action is the last resort in the fight agaisnt terrorism."

My friends, now is the time to join our Russian friends and drain the swamp and kill all the mosquitoes. The tragic Russian school massacre was an al Qaeda operation. The Chechens were prominent in Afghanistan where they were trained in al Qaeda camps and they are now al Qaeda foot soldiers.

The resistance in Iraq and Afghanistan finds refuge in Iran. Hussein’s WMDs are hidden in Syria or Syrian-controlled Lebanon. If we don’t hunt down and kill our enemies we will have Bessan School Tragedy right here in River City.

The answer should be obvious. We must join our Russian friends and...

They can start by cutting off the flow of Russian "water" into the Iranian swamp.

Is San Franciso on Russia's list of terror bases?

If Russia is serious, they can start by joining the coalition in Iraq. Once stable, on to Iran and Syria.

Lets hope they still can put some fear into people and haven't been Europeanized into worrying about the French. What if Russia joins us, does that still mean there is no coalition.

Wonder why "terrorist bases" is in quotes. Do they think Putin is making this stuff up?

We can't do that, 1st the swamp is a wetland and 2nd the mosquitoes are endangered and third Russia is not our friend.

Especially Iraq and Syria; the issue will be the extent to which they can use their new anti-terrorist stance diplomatically to undercut domestic support for terrorism in these countries. They would (I believe) rather keep their soldier's feet out of these locations so that Uncle Sam takes the heat, and we would rather keep them out because of previous "misunderstandings". However, having their support politically, diplomatically, and financially would be a tremendous help in closing down terrorist support operations globally...IMHO

Wrong. It's the first action a nation must take, and IMO Russia is bloviating here because they talked tough after the Moscow theater tragedy and did nothing then.

Let the Russkies fight their own battles after they screwed us on Iraq. These terrorists were funded and support by the old Soviet Union for years anyhow.

We are already there. If Putin and Co. are serious, it's time for them to join us. They might start by asking Bush how they can help. In their own back yard they might send Chechnya the way of Carthage.

The Russian reaction at the very least will validate PREEMPTION and certainly puts leftists in the position of reevaluating UNILATERALISM.

The terrorists have awakened the Ruskies from their slumber, we may well have a strategically placed partner now in putting pressure on Iran and North Korea.

Big blunder this one, on the part of the enemy.

Then stop arming IRan and Syria and standing in the way on Iraq. Don't give me lipservice about going after terrorists and give Iran nuclear ability, not to mention arming North Korea

Not sure we want Russia getting involved with Iraq... don't need the "we'll take over from here" mentality creeping in like it did at Yalta.

And no, I don't trust Putin further than I can throw him.

Look, Russia layed with dogs and woke up with fleas. They made their own beds and their so-called friends in the EU double-crossed and blamed the tragedy on them. They need to learn some harsh lessons before the U.S. even thinks about assisting them in the WOT.

I'm not saying we should abandon them, but they should at least come clean on their role in the oil-for-food scandal and all the other dirty dealings they made with Hussein.

I concur. There's an understanding of past errors that needs to be reached so that it's clear it won't happen again...

Amen. A terrorist meets his objectives when his intended targets cringe in fear, or when they come to his table to plead for peace. A terrorist meets his objectives when his enemies "withdraw" in order to avoid future terrorism. A terrorist even meets his objectives when he dies, as long as his death strikes fear into his victims. A terrorist's most fundamental weapon is fear, and terrorism cannot be defeated until that weapon, fear, is turned back upon the terrorist, and those who support him. Half-measures and politically-motivated rules of engagement only succeed in getting our noble soldiers killed and emboldening the terrorists. To paraphrase Ann Coulter: invade their countries, kill their leaders, hunt them down in the streets, slaughter them like dogs, and convert their neighbors to democracy.

I don't know about "trusting" him, but the Rooskies are seriously pissed. They feel they have to show strength here or they will be viewed to be as weak as France or Spain.

This is a genuine opportunity to cement another vested, motivated, ally in the war on terror. I say, welcome aboard.

Yalta, with all respect, was in 1945 with a USSR under Stalin. IMO, that was a different time and a different world.
