Report: Palestinian PM submits resignation

Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmed Qurei on Tuesday once again submitted his resignation to President Yasser Arafat after the two had harsh exchanges of words. The London-based Asharq Al Awsat reported Wednesday that Qurei decided to quit over disputes regarding lack of reforms in the Palestinian Authority. Arafat is blamed for repeatedly blocking attempts to reform. The two leaders also clashed on the issue of the next Donor Countries conference, the report added.

It was not clear whether Qurei would follow through on his threat to quit. He has made similar threats in the past, and briefly stepped down in July but returned to office after pressure from Arafat. However, the paper quoted Wednesday Qurei as saying "This time it's final."

I wonder if the PM and Al Sadr are related?

Arafat and the PA leadership see a need to get back onto the headlines. This is how they do it without blowing up innocent people in pizza parlors or commuter buses. The PM declares that it's over, over! Arafat refuses the resignation. The PM tosses it onto Arafat's lap and storms out of the room. World headlines for 2 days, maybe a week. Then in front of the cameras they kiss (twice) and make up. It's all a charade.

Maybe we can get Putin to kill Arafat now that the left in Israel has stopped worshipping him? Putin did say any terrorist anywhere.

Someone's got to do it and it's way, way, long overdue.
