Tonight Kerry Crewman Jim Wasser will speak before the Stephenson County Democratic Party at the party's "Veterans For Kerry" night. Details appear in a Freeport Journal-Standard article included in post 1.
We intend to greet incoming Kerry fans, and to deliver a list of questions we dare the Dems to ask Wasser. Our theme is "He's Still Hanoi John," to reflect the fact that even if Jim Wasser is right and John Kerry was a war hero in '69, he was a traitor in '71. We welcome suggested questions and signage, and any resources you can point us to. We're prepared, but we can be even better prepared by picking your brains, so let fly!
Speaker at Stephenson County Democrats event was on Kerry's swift boat
By Travis Morse, The Journal-Standard
FREEPORT -- Stephenson County Democrats will host a special event in September called Veterans for Kerry Night, which will feature guest speaker Jim Wasser, who served on the same swift boat as Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry in Vietnam.
Tom Jackson, chairman of the Stephenson County Democratic Central Committee, said he wanted to organize the event so local residents could hear from someone who served with Kerry at the time of the 1969 incident in Vietnam where Kerry won a Bronze Star.
The incident in question has become the subject of considerable controversy in recent weeks. According to the official account, Kerry's Bronze Star was awarded for his pulling Special Forces Lt. Jim Rassmann, who had been blown off a swift boat, out of the water.
Recently, however, an
anti-Kerry group known as Swift Boat Veterans for Truth has run television ads challenging Kerry's military record and the official version of events, according to the Associated Press.
Jackson said he heard Wasser speak in Springfield and was moved by what the veteran had to say about his service with Kerry. He then asked Wasser if he would speak at an event in Stephenson County and Wasser agreed, Jackson said.
"It was very heart-wrenching and inspiring," Jackson said of Wasser's Springfield speech. "We're very excited about having someone who's been so close to (Kerry) and was on the same swift boat as Sen. Kerry."
Wasser was not available for comment, but Jackson said Wasser supports the official version regarding Kerry's service in Vietnam. Jackson hopes Wasser's presentation will settle the swift boat issue for local voters.
"It puts the swift boat issue to bed," Jackson said.
Ken Bohnsack, vice chairman of the local Democratic Central Committee, said the swift boat controversy has been distracting people from the really important issues in this presidential race, including jobs, health care, the Iraq war and others.
"I hope (Wasser) can clear the air," Bohnsack said. "It's a sad commentary it has come down to this in a very critically important race."
Local Republican party officials could not be reached for comment.
The Veterans for Kerry Night event will be held at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 8 at the Stephenson County Democratic headquarters, located at 2 E. Stephenson St. in downtown Freeport. The event is free and open to the public.

Why don't let these guys come on O' Reilly to debate with O' Neill?

Kerry won't let them because the result would be the same as the '71 Dick Cavett debate: O'neill would leave them a smoking wreck.
I'd enlarge the picture of Kerry's book the New Soldier with the upside down American Flag.
And where in the hell is Freeport? Is it in Alaska, Ohio,
it's a big country my friend.
When Kerry left John O'Neil got his boat, where was the Kerry crew and did they also serve with O'Neil. If they served with O'Niel what did they think of him? If not why not? where did they go?
KERRY LIED POWS DIED!
If you have the time (to get locked up and post bail that is).
Make a big sign saying "Too bad I couldn't bring my shotgun here with me tonight!"
and another one that says "Where's John Hinkly (sp?) when you need him?".
Let's just see how security and the MSM jump all over you.
I bet that would mushroom into some sort of VRWC story real quick.
That must be Freeport, Bahamas?
BTTT!!!!!!!
Call his a baby killer, and war criminal, and Ghengis Khan
him*
Illinois.
