But it should disqualify the Bush campaign from sliming the military service of a rival who still carries shrapnel from Vietnam in his thigh. This is so stupid. Bush is NOT the one running on his military record, Kerry is. And Bush is not "sliming the military service" of Kerry, in fact he praised it! If Kristof means the swift vets, well then if you want to lump the swift vets with the Bush campaign, then it's fair to lump the Michael Moore-ons of this world with Kerry. Funny how you don't see Kristof doing that.

The Bush campaign hasn't slimed Kerry's military service, though Kerry has slimed them. And I have never seen the President allow speakers at one of his events slime Kerry's service, but Kerry does.

This is the same crap debunked months ago; he was temporarily released from drills to work on a campaign and made the time up later. Expect more of this recycled garbage as election day draws nearer and Kerry slides back into oblivion.

"But if Bush supporters attack John Kerry for his conduct after he volunteered for dangerous duty in Vietnam, it's only fair to scrutinize Mr. Bush's behavior."

Did I miss the portion of Bush's campaign centered on his military service?

This story will go nowhere, as much as the press tries.

Mr. Mintz says he had heard that Mr. Bush - described as a young Texas pilot with political influence - had transferred to the base. He heard that Mr. Bush was also a bachelor, so he was looking forward to partying together. He's confident that he'd remember if Mr. Bush had shown up.

Was this guy gay or something??

He couldn't find one other bachelor in the military to party with? The military is full of bachelors. When I was in the Air Force probably 75% of the guys were not married. And during that time period couldn't married guys get a deferment so the percentage would be much higher.

He's lying.

...he is now a Democrat but was a Republican for most of his life...

Two possibilities: he's lying about having been Republican, or he's become mentally ill...

You know were folks asleep at the wheel for the last 4 years. Reporters had all this time and at the 2 minute warning they bring up it again, with flimsy support.

Hey Mr Kristoff. Who in THE BUSH CAMPAIGN is sliming Kerry? Names and positions in the campaign please you moron!

I don't recall the Democrats being so gung ho on military service for a leader in 1992 or 1996...

Hey, media jackals, 4 years and you still haven't managed to pin a negative on Bush over this. If you want to waste the next 2 months trying to accomplish what you have failed to do in 4 years, be my guest. You'll noticewe aren't exactly intimidated by this coordinated and oh so predictable move.

Six things (started as 3 things)...
1. Everyone has heard this before and nobody cared the first time
2. The overwhelming conclusion is that there is no clear conclusion
3. Bush has NEVER used his military record as a campaign platform.
4. The Kerry campaign just removed its legitimacy in criticizing 527 ads questioning a candidate's military record
5. The Swift Vets have A LOT more dirt to spill on Kerry, and now have carte blanche to let fly.
6. Vietnam remains an issue. That's bad for Kerry

"Mintz, who at one time was a registered Republican and in recent years has cast votes in presidential elections for independent Ross Perot and Democrat Al Gore, confesses to “a negative reaction” to what he sees as out-and-out dissembling on President Bush’s part."

There was a guy on FNC last night, I think, he was from Arkansas. In 2000 he saw the stuff about Bush's NG in Alabama and called headquarters to say he remembered Bush in AL. The Bush campaign never called him back.

...only after the speaker of the Texas House intervened for him because of his family's influence.

Didn't Barnes, or whatever his name was, say that none of the Bushes ever asked for this supposed favor? They can't seem to get their story straight.
