"Murder by Any Other Name"
Slate.com ^ | 9/7/04 | Christopher Hitchens

"Not to exaggerate or generalize or anything, but in the past week or so it seems to have become very slightly less OK to speak of jihad as an understandable reaction to underlying Muslim grievances. The murder of innocents in a Russian school may have been secondarily the result of a panic or a bungle by Vladimir Putin's "special forces," but nobody is claiming that the real responsibility lies anywhere but on the shoulders of the Muslim fanatics..."

Well, the Hamas front CAIR actually condemned the murders of kids today -- while calling for a negotiated settlement, a not-too-subtle warning to the Russians not to strike back.

"No words can describe the horror and grief generated by the deaths of so many innocent people at the hands of those who dishonor the cause they espouse. We offer sincere condolences to the families of the victims and call for a swift resolution to the conflict in that troubled region that will let all people live in peace and freedom."

Fortunately, the Russians, unlike our President, don't take advice from terrorists on how to handle terrorists...

... but this is a great leap for CAIR. They have actually uttered mild criticism of other Muslims -- even though it took mass murders of hundreds of children to make them do it.

Hitchens remains a proud socialist.

But he has demonstrated that it is possible to be of the Left, yet retain one's honor and recognize the difference between right and wrong.

Aside from the WOT, Hitchens would be in 180 degree opposition to conservatives on just about every imaginable policy.

Nonetheless, his views are always welcome here at FR.

I hope that the famous Russian temper is brought to bear on these vermin.
