After seven years of effort kicked off by a former Marine from Virginia, the U.S. Postal Service will issue a stamp next year honoring icon of the Corps Chesty Puller
"I'm ecstatic," said retired Marine Maj. Jacques Loraine. "I didn't think it was really going to happen, with the long delays and putoffs."
'snip'
Sometime next year, the Postal service will publish the "Distinguished Marines" block of stamps, featuring four Marine Corps heroes: Puller, Lt. Gen. John A. Lejeune, Sgt. Maj. Dan Daly and Gunnery Sgt. John Basilone.

Thanks to this thread.
I heard a piece on the Howie Carr show today referencing thesmokinggun.com.
Stamps they got approved: Monica's blue dress, Julius and Ethel Rosenberg, Ted Kazinsky (HS yearbook).
Stamps refused: Lee Harvey Oswald, Sammy "The Bull" Gravano.
Forgive my aging memory.

I'm right behind you! :)
CONGRATUALTIONS MARINES! Now let to USPS get those stamps out without delay.
It's about time. :-)
Semper Fi, Marines never die. Tey just go to hell and regroup

Excellent!
As far as the 13 member committee.. they need to seriously re-evaluate their personal icons.
Case in point, the Christmastime muslim stamp debacle.
Ah good - he got a gedunk medal (second row from bottom, right side). And I don't see a Good Conduct medal in that fruit salad either (but this IS Chesty Puller) ;)
bump
Thank you for your service (from a former Navy puke who is a proud Associate Member of the Marine Corps League).
That red one with the blue stripe is the Good Conduct Medal. His also has a star. He was enlisted for quite a while before getting a commission.
I thought the Good Conduct was solid red. Mine was.

Puller was a Marine, not Navy. Solid red Good Conduct ribbons are from the Navy.

Establishing Authority
The Navy Good Conduct Medal was established on April 26, 1869, by Secretary of the Navy A.E. Borie. The transitional design of the Navy Good Conduct Medal followed from the original establishment of the Good Conduct Medal by the Secretary of the Navy in 1884.
Effective Dates
The current design of the Navy Good Conduct Medal has been awarded for qualifying service from 1961 to the present.
..snip..
The ribbon to the Navy Good Conduct Medal is red and is based on the red stripe in the original three-colored ribbon; it was darkened to avoid its being confused with the ribbon of the Specially Meritorious Service Medal, 1898, which is a brighter shade of red.
Thanks for the reply and the correction.
