AP: Lawsuit Gets Bush Guard Papers Out
2 minutes ago
By MATT KELLEY, Associated Press Writer
WASHINGTON - President Bush (news - web sites) was ranked in the middle of his Air National Guard class and flew more than 336 hours in a fighter jet before letting his pilot status lapse and missing a key readiness drill, according to his flight records belatedly uncovered Tuesday under the Freedom of Information Act.
The Pentagon (news - web sites) and Bush's campaign have claimed for months that all records detailing his fighter pilot career have been made public, but defense officials said they found two dozen new records detailing his training and flight logs after The Associated Press filed a lawsuit and crafted new requests under the public records law.
"Previous requests from other requesters for President Bush's Individual Flight Records did not lead to the discovery of these records because at the time President Bush left the service, flight records were subject to retention for only 24 months and we understood that neither the Air Force nor the Texas Air National Guard retained such records thereafter," the Pentagon told the AP.
"Out of an abundance of caution," the government "searched a file that had been preserved in spite of this policy" and found the Bush records, the letter said. "The Department of Defense (news - web sites) regrets this oversight during the previous search efforts."
The records show Bush, a lieutenant in the Texas Air National Guard, was ranked No. 22 in a class of 53 pilots when he finished his flight training at Moody Air Force Base in Georgia in 1969.
Over the next three years, he logged 326.4 hours as a pilot and an additional 9.9 hours as a co-pilot, mostly in his the F-102a jet used to intercept

If you notice near the end of the article they try to make it sound like there was Two F-102's kept for George W. Bush to fly. Problem is....... the 147th is in Texas..... It's kinda hard to be ready to go in 5 minutes when you're 600 miles from Texas
Yes I saw this. more bias from the media.
Of course the papers revealed nothin that wasnt known
He's an evil retard!! A wiley dunce!
Abu Ghraib, Act II, Scene 1.
Anyone have a contact # or a fax # we can all call, asking them to sue for Kerry's records? Email won't cut it... be broke them for the Boo story... we can break them for this too...
hmm. Bush was a mediocre pilot and Kerry committed war atrocoities.. Which one is more important?
And where is their FOIA request/suit for Sen. Kerry's records?
But...but...Max Cleland said that Bush's Guard service was just "weekend warrior" stuff anyway. So who cares whether Bush was AWOL or not, right? < /Sarcasm >
dead: Maybe it's part of an elaborate rope-a-dope. Records will continue trickling out, painting an increasingly positive picture of Bush's NG service, and subtly increasing the pressure on the MSM to do "equal time" digging into Kerry's records.
Sub-Driver: Did W sign a form 180? I don't recall that. Can you tell me when?
A moron a day, that's all we ask.
In other words, W was telling the truth.
Sorry. Inquiry about form 180 should be directed to gilliam, not Sub-Driver. My bad.
ANOTHER message to the AP...

The tenor and intent of this message was to attempt to malign Bush...
Even with the obvious anti-Bush tone and tenor to this article, it proves that Bush HAS told the truth...
Yet the AP appears now, more than ever, as a DNC front organization...
Where are the howls for Kerry's records? Where is the hard questions to the Kerry campaign? Why the love affair with the DNC and Kerry and the HATEFEST for Bush and the Republican party? Why the LIES that Republicans BOOED? Why the deception and manipulation?
The Associated Press is nothing but a trash rag. Following suit with the New York Times. No longer objective, no longer about news, simply about partisan politics to support the DNC and Kerry.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
NO new stunning revelations, but the anti-Bush hate taint is quite obvious...
Is is any wonder that the media is rated LOWER THAN LAWYERS AND AMONG THE LOWEST RATED "PROFESSIONS" IN THE COUNTRY!!! "ABA Survey Finds Lawyers Among Lowest-Regarded U.S. Professions. But media are rated worse..." Mary P. Gallagher, New Jersey Law Journal. May 7, 2002. "Only the media, at 16 percent, were rated lower than the legal profession..."
Um, there doesn't seem to be one. An oversight I'm sure, because if they haven't gone after the other major presidential candidate's records that would mean they're totally biased and trying to help get Kerry elected.
Nevermind.....
Not suprisingly, the AP writer buried that news at the end of the story.
You might also like to know that Vietnam was seriously winding down in 1972, and there were not enough planes/slots for pilots who wanted to keep their flight status current, as so many pilots were returning to the US. I'm sure that it was considered 'cooperative' that GWB did not care about keeping current his flight status.
strange how they can always get the courts to release republican records but somehow can never see democrat's records including kerry's divorce, theresa's taxes, or kerry's service records.
They fail to point out more than that -- the Air Force was phasing out F-102's and transitition to the other planes during this time. If you were not staying in the Guard, then you were not going to transition. The F-102's left were being flown by people staying in until they could transition to the F-101 or F-106 which was replaced by F-16 in some places and F-4's in other places. Since the President was not staying in the Texas ANG, then no need to keep flying as there were not enough planes with the F-102's going to the boneyard.
Once you are getting out and no longer flying, flight physicals are not mandatory unless you want back on flying status. There was a shortage of flight surgeons during the Vietnam War so anyone not staying on flying status did not get a priority for a physical.
So Bush flew Jet Fighters for 3 YEARS, while Kerry did his little boat thing for 4 MONTHS.
Seems to me that Kerry does not measure up in his "service", since he went "AWOL" from his troops and escaped like the coward he is back to the US.
The AP is very subtle.
