Bush's Bounce
Poll shows Kerry flagging
By KAREN TUMULTY
Tuesday, Sep. 07, 2004
For the first time since the presidential contest became a two-man race this spring, it seems to have a clear leader: President Bush. The latest TIME poll shows Bush leading his rival, John Kerry, 52% to 41%. Kerry's decline has coincided with the airing of television ads attacking his Vietnam War record and antiwar activism. Anxious Democrats say Kerry was not quick or aggressive enough in countering the largely unsubstantiated attacks on his record by a group calling itself Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, but Kerry's drop in the polls also suggests continued confusion over his explanations of where he stands on Iraq. And a weekful of Republican Convention coverage has not helped. "We expect, as implied in the word bounce, that [Bush's] numbers will come down," says Kerry spokesman Joe Lockhart. Kerry returned to the campaign trail in Ohio immediately after the G.O.P. Convention ended and announced, "I will not have my commitment to defend this country questioned by those who refused to serve when they could have and who misled the nation into Iraq." He has two months to prove that his response hasn't come too late.

I remember when Tumulty used to be a regular "All Star" panelist on Brit's show on FOX. Wonder what happened to her.
Does the writer mean this response? That comment was not too late it was stupid.
"largely unsubstantiated"
when 254 people say the same thing, that is substantiated...
Bill O'reilly said on his show today that the bounce had nothing to do with the Swift Vets.
It was the Convention that gave Bush the bounce because of Rudy, McCain and Auunooldd.
She doesn't know it's substantiated because she doesn't want to know.
Time Magazine quoting the NY Times quoting the DNC.
Would they say, "a group calling itself the ACLU," or "a group calling itself the National Organization for Women"? I don't think so.
What's to question. They are all veterans. They are all Swift Boat veterans. The only question is whether they are truthful. Maybe some investigative reporter could look into that, instead of dismissing the testimony of more than a hundred veterans. They spent thousands of man hours investigating Bush's national guard service, and unlike Kerry Bush hasn't even campaigned on that issue.
They really are "kind of" unsubstantiated because SKerry hasn't released his own records.
My grandmother always said, "If it's going to embarass you, don't hang it on your clothes line."
Worth using the link.
The responses to the questions spell DOOM for Kerry.
That jumped out at me too. What they've admitted is that even they believe some of the swift boat vet charges. The fact they added the modifier "largely" speaks volumes.
How about, "A self-styled newsmagazine called Time."
I have seen this phrase so often, and in so many places, that it must be #1 or #2 on the Democrat Talking Points list.
250+ men with sworn affidavits = largely unsubstantiated.
Presidential candidate who won't release military medical records = credible.
I went to the Orange County Street fair in CA over the weekend with my wife and they had a stand for Kerry and a stand for Bush in the same area. People were givin buttons or stickers to put on their shirts. I put a 'Viva Bush' sticker on my shirt. Overall it was about even, maybe slightly more Bush people walking around. The funny thing was the libs, one lady that walked by me said "Impeach Bush", another guy walked by and said, "Democrats" he sounded like a zombie, hehe. I just smiled at their remarks, how childish, grow up dems!!!
The Kerry ship is sinking fast--man the lifeboats
Kerry is toast--bring out the jelly and butter
I can already hear the flushing...
If you could choose between "Karen" or "CeeCee?"
O'Reilly's dismissal of the SBV is disappointing, he may end up losing a lot of credibility over this. We'll see if his No Spin Zone still exists after the Kitty Kelley crap and anti-Kerry ads from Stolen Honor and other groups.
My wife, Laurie Dhue, whom I've seen naked, would object.
