From the Associated Press article:
In West Virginia, Cecil Roberts, president of the United Mine Workers of America, gave Kerry a rifle as a gift. Kerry, a self-described gun-owner and hunter, quipped: "I thank you for the gift, but I can't take it to the debate with me."

Kerry, looking at the gun after receiving it, probably is thinking something like "This isn't top-of-the-line. My wife always buys me the BEST of everything." Yeah, what is it? Browning or Remington auto, pistol grip? That used to be considered a pretty nice shotgun when I was a kid. And by the way, I do think it would have come under one of Kerry's gun bans because of the grip.

If Bush said anything remotely like this, it would be on the headline on every news website right now Yep, along with pictures of the Columbine boy-killers, McVeigh, et al...with the message quite clear.

"You have to speak up - they're going to run you right over and make you look like idiots," Katie Simeson, 41, told vice presidential candidate John Edwards."
Too late Katie....these two "BOZO'S" are life long idiots!

Sorry, but this idea of a joke doesn't fly these days with all the hatred flowing and the demo nuts out there

Seems like the Secret Service should be all over this. Everyone should send them a nice note and let them know. Oh, and compliment them on the good job they did at the conventions.

I agree, we all thought it was funny when Reagan outlawed the Soviet Union. A little outrageous but not out of line.

"If J effin K came up with this comment out of the blue,"
It didn't, considering he once voted on an "anti-war" proposal to assassinate pro-war US Senators.
THe Secret Service should be surveilling, not guarding, this sick and dangerous lunatic...John Hinkly Kerry.

FYI................
I heard Rush say the same things that I said in my reply to your post on his show this afternoon.
Additionally, Shawn Hannity has reiterated these very same comments on his show (3:25 pm EDT).

I haven't researched all of your (collective) postings, so I don't know for a fact any of you did so, but if you posted that you were equally appalled by Senator Miller's "duel" comments to Chris Mathews, then I can understand your outrage now. However, I think it was a joking comment made to his supporters, and was nothing more than a throwaway laugh line.
Again, lighten up, people. There's enough about Kerry to be outraged over without looking for trivial poor taste humor.

Considering that if me or thee cracked this same joke, we'd get a visit from the Secret Service and be forever on their "watch list" (read: "folks who get detained in the local lockup whenever the Prez visits"), this is a little beyond "trivial poor taste humor."

Poohbah, C'mon now. Kerry didn't say "I wish I could use this to shoot the President of the United States." All he said was "I thank you for the gift, but I can't take it to the debate with me."
Lighten up!

All he said was "I thank you for the gift, but I can't take it to the debate with me."There are FReepers who said much milder things about Clinton and got the undivided attention of the Secret Service.
Lighten up!

The two "jokes" do not compare.
One said by a soon-to-be X Senator re a talking tv head.
The other said by a Presidential Candidate of the United States re the sitting President of the United States.

I advise you to look up the definition of Narcissistic Personality Disorder. It fits J effin K to a tee.
To: Poohbah
He's gotten a pass, ( and even felt, probably, a blessing), for all of his past acts of treason/sedition. He's grown into the habit of such speech.

NPD is something I'm all to familiar with, and that's but one of his large collection of PDs.

It's called gathering evidence. And everybody on the thread seemed pretty light but you.
The point is, in a character study, this is a significant piece of the psychological puzzle.
People are allowed to laugh at anything they want unless it's a tragedy and Kerry won't be in total tragedy mode until 11/3.

Rush Limbaugh was all over Kerry's gun gift this afternoon with a lot of guffaws.
He finished up by mentioning something I didn't know.
That gun he so excitedly aceepted would actually have been banned by the bill Kerry signed, had it passed.
Flip-Flop!
