There is a much better answer than giving up our freedoms.

Go on the offensive; EXTERNAL to the U.S.

Make the terrorists, and those who aid, abet, comfort,
support, supply, and harbor them...
pay with their lives. No terrorists, no terrorism.

The War on Terror is a war for our freedom -- freedom to have:

- secret searches
- secret laws
- secret courts
- secret judges
- secret warrants
- secret evidence
- secret investigations
- secret detentions

It's freedom baby!

"Do you... " the judge stumbled; he had not expected it to be that easy. "Do you throw yourself on the mercy of this court?"
"I do not recognize this court’s right to try me."
"What?"
Hank Reardon repeated his statement.
"But, Mr. Reardon, this is the legally appointed court to try this particular category of crime."
"I do not recognize my action as a crime."
"But you have admitted that you have broken our regulations controlling the sale of your metal."
"I do not recognize your right to control the sale of my metal."
"Do you mean that you are refusing to obey the law?" asked the judge.
"No. I am complying with the law to the letter. Your law holds that my life, my work and my property may be disposed of without my consent. Very well, you may now dispose of me without my participation in the matter. I will not play the part of defending myself where no defense is possible, and I will not simulate the illusion of dealing with a tribunal of justice."

......

"Did you really think that we want those laws to be observed?" said Dr. Ferris. "We *want* them broken. You'd better get it straight That it's not a bunch of boy scouts you're up against– then you'll know that this is not the age for beautiful gestures. We're after power and we mean it. You fellows were pikers, but we know the real trick, and you'd better get wise to it. There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What's there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced nor objectively interpreted – and you create a nation of law-breakers – and then you cash in on guilt. Now that's the system, Mr. Rearden, that's the game, and once you understand it, you'll be much easier to deal with."

Go on the offensive; EXTERNAL to the U.S.

How? by attacking Christian Serbs to aid albanian muslim scum? By attacking & destroying a weak, stable, secular Iraq? Permanent military occupation of a country (afghanistan) where we defeated the terrorists years ago? Criticizing the evil Russians for opressing poor chechnian freedom fighters? Kissing saudia arabian ass?

Make the terrorists, and those who aid, abet, comfort, support, supply, and harbor them... pay with their lives. No terrorists, no terrorism.

Face facts... almost every single person who took an active role in the trade center attack died in the attack! Add up every single muslim who has participated in or actively supported an attack on American targets (pre-9/11) & what do you have? A couple of dozen? A couple of hundred? The attack on Iraq has created millions of sworn enemies who would gladly cut your throat or blow up your child just for being American.

The "war on terror" ain't about terror. The "war on drugs" ain't about drugs. The "war on poverty" wasn't about poverty. It's all about growing gov't and concentrating power in the hands of ruthless, greedy, evil people who we've allowed to take over our nation.

Kill every muslim on the planet today & tomorrow the gov't declares "we have to sacrifice our liberty, treasure & lives to win the war on [fill in the blank]"... it's for the chillldren!

It's really a war on liberty. A war on limited, constitutional government. A war on me. A war on you!

[Much verbiage mixed with sarcasm in my direction...deleted]

If you have looked elsewhere on free republic,
you might have seen threads talking about
who many of the fighters in Iraq are.
Not all of them are disposessed members of
the old regime; many are heavily armed Muslim
fighters who would likely be trying to kill
civilians over here, if they were not getting
their asses blown off by our Marines over there.

I maintain that it is in the best interests of
the population of the US, and of the US government,
to keep as many of these people OUT of our country
as possible.

[Full disclosure: I live in Arizona. Don't get
me started on border sieve...um, 'security'.]

If you have looked elsewhere on free republic
(say some of the threads covering photographs
of the atrocities at Beslan), you may have noted
a distinct preponderance of photographs of...
MUSHROOM CLOUDS.

Many people were advocating that Putin nuke Mecca.
I don't yet want to go that far, but perhaps
a couple of 'neutron bombs' on terrorist training
camps or what have you would seriously undermine
the terrorist infrastructure and supporting economy,
much as they sought to undermine the US economy.

Point is, if we take it to terrorists OVER THERE,
we don't need the government to take away our liberties
OVER HERE.

PS If Ashcroft were as evil as DemocRATS and libertarians
whine, then many prominent RATS would be behind a
barbed wire fence in Alaska. OTOH, look what Bill, Hillary, Janet Reno did to US citizens in the absence
of a patriot act. And yet again, Lincoln suspended
Habeas Corpus & tried to arrest Taney; but I'm not
aware of any President since then that has tried to
do that.

In other words, the potential for abuse is there; how
likely it is, I'm not sure of. Why don't we take measures
against terrorists that don't tempt the US govt. to curtail our liberties, but stil keep us safe?

There now. Can we shake hands yet? </g>

My neighbor & I hate each other. He might get drunk one day & come after me with a gun. I'll face that day if it comes. In the meantime, I'm not going to kill him & his family to prevent the possible future threat he poses.

I maintain that it is in the best interests of the population of the US, and of the US government, to keep as many of these people OUT of our country as possible.

Our gov't actively promotes muslim immigration. It actually recruits muslim immigrants. It allowed a muslim with known ties to terrorist organizations to set up a muslim military chaplin group in our armed forces. It allows foreign governments to fund muslim programs that operate in our prisons, recruiting converts to the cult of islam

...photographs of the atrocities at Beslan), you may have noted a distinct preponderance of photographs of... MUSHROOM CLOUDS...

I donated $100 to the victims of the muslim attack in Beslan. If Putin nukes mecca, medina or any other muslim lair, it won't bother me a bit.

Point is, if we take it to terrorists OVER THERE...

No problem with taking it to terrorists. Not many terrorists in hospitals, old-folks homes, pharmaceutical factories, weddings, TV studios, Canadian Infantry units, etc... all of which we have bombed in the WOT. It must be pretty terrorifying to a kintergarten class to see a B-52 coming in on a bombing raid aimed at them! (whether purposely targeted or not)

we don't need the government to take away our liberties OVER HERE

We don't have a choice in the matter.

...Ashcroft were as evil as DemocRATS and libertarians whine, then many prominent RATS would be behind a barbed wire fence in Alaska

How about innocent nobody Americans and foreigners in Guantanamo? Don't count unless they're prominent RATs? How about innocent Iraqis in Bagdad prisons?

look what Bill, Hillary, Janet Reno did to US citizens in the absence of a patriot act

Wasn't Randy Weaver's wife murdered by the feds on Bush I's watch? How many people have the DEA, BATF & FBI murdered in the last 4 yrs?

Why don't we take measures against terrorists that don't tempt the US govt. to curtail our liberties, but stil keep us safe?

I'd like to know too.

Can we shake hands yet?

Takes looong arms to shake hands between Arizona & Georgia, but, in spirit, sure. Like I told another FReeper I was arguing with, the fact that we're both posting here instead of one of us being from DU means we have some things in common
