Suddenly, a far-away country about which most of us know little has shot to the very forefront of our minds and consciences. In a new century already steeped in horror, what happened at the Russian school in Beslan plumbs new depths of barbarity.
The carefully planned slaughter of hundreds of children, a massacre of innocents mown down inside their school by zealots who bayoneted one when he asked for water and who blew others up or shot them in cold blood, is a monstrosity which has had a profound effect upon those who watched in horror as the tragedy unfolded.
The hellish images — of murder, of screaming terror, of naked and starving children forced to eat the flowers they had brought to school or drink their own urine — will surely serve to define our terrorised age. It is impossible to comprehend how human beings can behave like this to anyone, let alone to children.
And that incomprehension makes us realise that we are dealing here with something that is as terrifying as it is diabolical — people who no longer behave as recognisable human beings, who are in the grip of a religious hysteria so profound that human life is of no consequence whatsoever, except as a means to terrorise the world.

For I do not believe this was an isolated episode in a fight between Chechen separatists and the Russian government. This was Russia’s 9/11, part of the global jihad being waged against all infidels — Americans, Europeans, Russians, Jews, Buddhists, Hindus or moderate Muslims — in order to re-establish the medieval Islamic global empire. It was, in short, further evidence that we are embroiled in a world war.

With all due respect, are you friggin' kidding???? Imagine if someone had flown planes into the World Trade Center, but instead of providing any information on what was going on, the media spent a whole 2 days telling you about some earthquake tremors in California. That's the magnitude of what they did. Russia had a catastrophic, horrendous, 9/11 like terrorist event....and our media spent 48 hours -- correction, wasted 48 hours breathlessly reporting on rain in Florida. Every damn one of them should be called on the carpet for it. I've already written FNC expressing my complete disgust with them.
I don't care what Russia's role, or non-role in the WoT has been. How much did we hear about a train bombing in Spain? More than this. How much did we hear about French journalists being kidnapped? More than this. How much did we hear about Abu Graib? A damn sight more than this! All pale in comparison to what happened in Beslan last week! VMI70 said it well -- mad enough to chew nails. The media should be embarrased and ashamed for treating this horrific event as nothing more than filler. Pathetic.

There is no difference in these Islamic radicals and the Nazis and Communists. We have a new enemy. They must be destroyed. We cannot show mercy. May God direct our wonderful president as he attempts to decide what is right.
There is a difference between the Nazis and Communists, they had countries that supported their beliefs, the islamo terrorists don't have countries anymore, Afganistan fell, and Iraq, Iran will be the next, but they are so wide spread even in the Phillipines and Mylasia even in the US. This is a very different war, there will be no countries coming to the table to talk piece or surrender. Only when this so-called religion stops it's self-proclaimed murders, will there be an end to the terrorists.

Workerbee, I think you're misinterpreting. VM170 wondered why the media & Bush seemed to be ignoring this. Workerbee was giving a possible reason BUSH had not yet spoken on it/.
The media blackout, on the other hand, is for a reason too obvious to state: It would add a great big exclamation point to what the RNC was saying for four solid days & President Bush has been saying for three solid years.

Agreed on the media, but I wasn't talking about the media. I was talking about policy makers in the executive branch of the US government. Last I checked, the media is not a branch of the government, only the DNC.

GEEZ! Live and learn. That's the first time I've ever heard that buried deep insid the "borg" (hahaha - love it) cube is the "Black Stone of Kaaba" and it's a freakin meteorite. Maybe it fell from the sky and killed Mohammed's fav camel or something. Anybody know?
I think right after 9/11 they should have waited until the Haj -the thing where 11 MILLION muslims run in circles around the Borg Cube - and they should have brought in Bombardier water bombers full of PIG GUTS AND BLOOD and let'em have it. Splooosh. They'd all go freakin MAD! It's WAAAY worse than shooting them!
There is NO reason (other than terminal PC) why, if they can condone the attack on the WTC etc that we shouldn't be open to using time "honored" techniques of knocking muslim insurections back a few hundred years. The British did it to great success. They'd round up a bunch of obvious suspects and execute say, 8 out of 10 and while the 2 survivors watched they would chuck the dead dudes into a pit full of pig guts and poo thus ensuring the dead guys NEVER got to go to Allah-land. Then they let the 2 free. By 6Am the next day the insurection was DEAD!
BTW I've asked 3 Muslims - one a univesity prof, one a very well known lawyer and another guy who is just super rich - what would happen if the Borg Cube was nuked or otherwise destroyed. The reaction was scary. Within two minutes 2 of the 3 were crying like babies and rocking back and forth. The other guy was almost catatonic and started to pray and didn't hear anything else I asked. All of them (before they flipped) said that it would be "the end ... the end of everything .... the end ... man ... end ..." Like that. These were all seperate incidents. They all acted the same way and these guys were all very well educated, world travellers and very rich and very "westernized." Their reaction was startling to say the least.
I guess it's nice to know that that may be the ace in the hole if things go wonky and we do need to do something like that in the future. My take is that 90% of them would simply go insane.
Oh BTW. I wrote a note to Melanie Phillips and thanked her for a great article. She just sent a very nice response. Maybe a few of you could drop her an email too. Writers like that are so few and far between they need all the encouragement us Neandrathals can send them.
