ALLENTOWN, PA-September 6, 2004 — Teresa Heinz Kerry, wife of Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry, has canceled an appearance in the Lehigh Valley after suffering an upset stomach that briefly sent her to a hospital over the weekend.Kerry campaign spokesman Mark Nevins says Heinz Kerry will participate in Labor Day events in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia today. But she's skipping the Lehigh Valley Labor Council picnic in Upper Macungie Township to give her a chance to rest.
Nevins says the Kerry campaign is working to find "an alternative person" to send to the annual picnic, expected to draw several hundred union members.
He says supporters shouldn't get too excited though. It's not going to be the Democratic candidate himself.
John Werkheiser, president of the Labor Council, says the Kerry campaign apologized repeatedly for the cancellation.

Word on Boston TV this morning is that Kerry is going to take the day off from campaigning to be with his wife.

are you serious? i just saw them say on Foxnews that he took YESTERDAY off to celebrate his daughter's birthday! he takes off every other dang day. either he has given up and knows he is beaten, or he is stupider than i don't know what.
Teresa is ill. An upset tummy does not last for three days. There is no reason why she cannot go to a picnic and not eat or just nibble. What is going on here?
They should be able to purchase a suitable replacement.

I have never heard of a Dem taking Labor Day off and not campaigning. This is a holiday made for them.
It may be that Mrs. Heinz realizes the campaign is for naught and wishes to end the hectic schedule.
She does not pull any punches and it would be interesting to hear her assessment of John's chances of winning.
