A Trailing Kerry Has Been There, Won That
Los Angeles Times ^ | September 6, 2004 | Mark Z. Barabak

BOSTON — John F. Kerry has been here before.

Turning into the final eight weeks of the presidential campaign, the Democratic nominee faces doubts within his party and pundits increasingly skeptical of his chances against a resurgent President Bush, who seems to have momentum heading his way.

It is reminiscent of the Democratic race last winter, when Kerry was counted among the living dead and former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean was romping to the Democratic nomination — or so it appeared.

But there is another contest that may be instructive, a campaign that political connoisseurs rate as one of the all-time classics: the 1996 U.S. Senate race between Kerry and Massachusetts' popular Republican governor, William F. Weld.

.....Although no election is like any other, the close-quarters combat of that Senate race offers clues to how the Democratic nominee operates under pressure, the steps he will take to win — and suggests why Democrats, nervous as some may be, are counting on another Kerry comeback.

With his reelection bid lagging — polls had Kerry trailing Weld in August by 8 percentage points — the senator abruptly shed one of his top aides and replaced him with a pugnacious ad man who crafted a more partisan message emphasizing pocketbook issues. Kerry worked to overcome his stuffy reputation by revealing a more personal and humble side to voters. He dug into his wallet even though it meant ignoring the spending limits he originally agreed to abide by. And he fiercely defended his Vietnam War record when his credibility was called into question.

Each was identical to steps Kerry would take years later as he rallied from behind to capture the Democratic presidential nomination and, more recently, fend off charges he exaggerated his Vietnam combat record.

I think in the next two weeks, another 527 will come out and start picking Kerry apart. Combine that with the SBV ads and the Kerry campaign will have to spend alot of money on damage control.

My tinfoil hat is pulsing. Somehow I get the feeling that McCain/Feingold was passed so that Rove would know who the enemy is and how to combat it. Money talks and everyone knew what would happen.

After this election cycle, McCain/Feingold will meet a sudden death and the Republicans will have a very extensive database on Socialist supporters.

Another card from the deck? I see the IRS in many Hollywood poseurs futures.

"The problem with this wishful thinking is, this isn't a Massachusetts' election and we're at war".

Yes, and kerry is not facing a mentally unstable, liberal Governor from CT! President Bush is NOT unstable, and will give no "Yeeeeeaiiiiiiiiiiiiiiarghhhhhhhh" moment!

The MAJORITY of Vets that supported kerry during ALL of his Senate runs have left him. They are now (for the most part) part of the opposition. Thirdly, America has gotten to know the Senator, and he scares the beejeezus out of 60% of us!

Finally, kerry will face charges in the press about his collusion with our enemy (North Vietnamese and VC), and treasonous charges stemming from meetings held with them in both PARIS, and HANOI! His Swiftboat has been TORPEDOED!!!!

"My boat is sinking, and I'm M E L T I N G... m e l t i n g... melt.... arghhhhhhhhh"!

Wow, that's amazing! Now, where does that rank on the ethical scale with registering dead voters?

Why do I have this feeling those two polls....Time and Newsweek werea set up.....that will show a Kerry comeback in the weeks to come

Talk about tightly scripted. There are probably several very LARGE media bombs ticking to go off. The next months will be orchestrated like an old communist show trial by their inheritors - the MSM.

>>>He dug into his wallet even though it meant ignoring the spending limits he originally agreed to abide by<<<

In other words he broke his word.,and bought the election.

The old double cross. Slimy baskturd proved his word is no good. This is what Massachusetts calls good politics. a Welcher.

The Senate is supposed to be made up of honorable men not people who welch on a deal. We dont want or need a Prsident who's word is no good.

Mr Kerry is not a Gentleman, He is a back biting, lying , mental midget.

I'm reminded of the Super Bowl between the Dallas Cowboys and the Buffalo Bills when Dallas finally took the lead in the 3d quarter and the Cowboys were on the sidelines screaming, "This ain't Houston, baby!" meaning the incredible NFL-record comeback Buffalo had two weeks earlier against the then-Houston Oilers. The Cowboys were right. They scored another TD and trounced the Bills.

This is the last thing the media socialists can hang their hat on. We will be seeing more and more of this. Let them believe it...any amount of complacency they might have is good.

It's time to do EVERYTHING humanly possible to break the back of the corrupt, socialist, "mainstream" media. These Marxist Socialist front groups have got to be stopped.

Here is what I propose:

1. Get lists of their advertisers and complain about the media Bush hate, manipulation, and deceit campaign.
2. Distribute the contact information for various advertiseers so that all FREEPERS can begin to complain.
3. Use the language of the lefty loonies against them. Note that the media is using hate, manipulation, and deceit against the president and their advertisements are supporting it.
4. Start sending complaints to the Boards of Directors at the parent holding companies. (you can find them here http://www.sec.gov/cgi-bin/srch-edgar )
5. Start finding other boards that many of the media directors sit on and beging a campaign to THOSE companies of that board member's support of the hate, manipulation, and deception against he president.

If we get on the stick with this, and are persistent, the "old media" can finally be crushed within the months leading up to the campaign. If anyone thinks for 2 seconds that this media is not going to pull out all the stops to ratchet up the anti-Bush hate and deception campaign coming up to this election, you've got another thing coming.

Bill

And Bush has already been slimed continuously for four years. Hard to get anything to stick that hasn't stuck already.

As I understand it, Democrats regularly register non-citizens to vote in Massachusetts elections.

Most likely the case in California also.

This was posted a few weeks ago on another thread, Stealing Elections: How Voter Fraud Threatens our Democracy ~ John Fund.:

To: Elle Bee

After finally getting a Republican into our Attorney General's office here in Alabama, AG (now federal Judge) Pryor sent postcards to every registered voter (they had a brief message on them to the effect of "Mrs. So n So is a Registered Voter at this address, please call xxx-xxxx if she is no longer living there").

You see, where you *live* matters. You vote in your precinct, for your state. You have to be a resident in both your precinct and your state.

Well, thousands upon thousands of those postcards came back with phony addresses or that no one by that name lived there. The postman had just done our voter validation for us.

We then purged our voter registration rolls of everyone whose postcard came back with an invalid address.

Republicans have owned this state ever since.

All for the price of sending out postcards. Oh, and last year we started requiring photo ID's to vote.

So it's safe to say that Alabama will go Republican again this year. We've killed voter fraud.

You can too. Hey, everyone can be as savvy as Alabamaians, right?!

Ya know, the last thing people would describe W as is elegant, but he has really conducted an elegant campaign so far, topped off with the elegant speech at the convention. He's been as nasty as he needs to be -- I'm not calling him a wimp -- but he's been classy. When the surrogates, primarily Cheney, deconstruct the opponent, they make it as impersonal as possible. It's just been classy, and the President, as usual, has been playing poker with one hand and chess with the other.

Mr Kerry is not a Gentleman,

KErry is another reason that dueling should be brought back. Hardball politics used to be about calling your opponent out. Now it consists of a lot of girly-boy and girly-girl eye poking, whining, and back-biting. I hate it.

With 2 months to go, I'm surprised so many people on both sides of the aisle are measuring Kerry for his coffin already. That's an eternity in politics.

Yup. It's the same way the MSM helped Kerry through the primaries.

What about the AOL Poll: 267857 questioned = 173703 to W. or = 65%. sKerry 91776 = 34%. Current Electoral Vote Estimates: W = 535. sKerry = 3 ???
