"It is scandalous to suggest that the French attitude is based on appeasement of terrorists," Parmentier said. Well, I guess it's scandalous then. It's appeasement!
I just read that France and Germany are in serious financial trouble. It's time to turn up the heat on our boycott of French goods/services.

I smell a rat here. The French, and Kerry are well know double dealing lier's. Do you think that the fact that the Kerry campaign has not spoken out to condemn the French hostage situation could mean the fix is in? That the situation is a set up to make Kerry look good? That he, Kerry will "negotiate" with the so called terrorists, winning their release, and thereby coming off as the man with the better foreign policy ability? I smell two rats actually.

In a poll in the French newspaper le Monde http://www.lemonde.fr/ more than 64% of respondants believe that France's anti-American stance in the War in Iraq will protect them from Islamo-fascist terrorism.
I guess the Russians believed the same until last week.

The french are as foolish as ever. If they refuse to rescind the scarf law, those journalists are dead. These terrorists cannot afford to back down and be seen as weak. Amazes me that the french can't see this.

France is history, its all over but putting the new flags up. They may be able to appeal for Germany's help, but thats about it. They've brought their problems on themselves and I don't think American lives should ever be used to bail them out again. Theirs is the kind of friendship we can do without.
But we should probably bring all of our war hero's back from the cemeteries so the Islamo fanatics do not desecrate them. IMO

Doesn't that quote say it all? Please don't attack us, because we will plead for our safety, but we won't fight for it...
Bet those terrorists are in full panic mode now.

That's it - way to be short-sighted. It will help France now, and in the long run, hurt them badly. But the whole EU will go down the tubes, not getting it until the last second.
To: Bonaparte
So your view is that we should rescind the law so that the two journalists may perhaps be liberated in some unspecified time ? Don't want to be too rude here, but that strikes me as twice as foolish...
To: kattracks
-"...on the grounds that France's dispute with the United States over Iraq "serves our interests because it keeps the occupation weak."
Occupation notwithstanding, that FLYspeck keeps us WEAK? Har-har-har!!
To: kattracks
"France has always pleaded for the sovereignty of this country and supported its people," Foreign Minister Michel Barnier said France has always pleaded for the status quo, which is that the Iraqi people continue to live in a totalitarian/dictatorial regime which did illegal business with the French gov't, undermining the security of the whole region. It couldn't care less about the people of Iraq.

"So your view is that we should rescind the law..."Of course not. My view is that what the french propose is utterly unrealistic, as usual. The only way to save the lives of those journalists is to cave in to the terrorists' demands. But if the french do that, they have handed over control of their country to the terrorists. The right thing to do is to spit in their faces, join America in its war on terror and kill as many islamists as they can, as fast as they can.
There is no other workable solution, but the french refuse to see this. Instead of strutting around like peacocks, shaking their little fists and making grand pronouncements, they should be taking islamofascist heads. The time for conversation was over 3 years ago.
Yes, if france does the right thing, they will probably see more terrorist incidents on their soil. That's war. If france continues to shuck and jive, they will always live in fear and be at the mercy of islamist whim. IOW, they will be dhimmi, slaves to islam. If Vichy is any indication, that may be what the french prefer.
