Russia gave us some help in the Afghan campaign. But they bitterly opposed the Iraqi campaign. They were right in there with the French.

If they want to be allies with us in the War on Terror, that's a big plus for all concerned. But an alliance is a two-way street. Russia has to stop sucking up to the Arabs at the expense of the United States.

Idiots the lot of them... That's what we've been telling them.

They did lead off with a fallacy though...

It seems that Russia, not America, has become the main target of terrorists. After September 11, 2001 there have been almost no terrorist attacks in the US, whereas there have been countless in Russia.

America is still the main target. We've just stopped all of the attacks against us by fighting the WOT. We've stopped countless attacks I'm sure.

this is pretty spooky...

"As a result, they closed the Benevolence International Foundation, which had already transferred over $300,000 to militants in Chechnya. A search of a Bosnian branch of this very foundation uncovered a simple handwritten order from Osama bin Laden, "It is time to attack Russia"."

There must no longer be Western "havens", where terrorists can rest, seek treatment, use all the benefits of civilisation and even find sympathetic sponsors.

Better late than never! Jump on board.

I wonder how old that note is... Osama hasn't had any love for Russia in ages.

It's too bad Chechnya is resorting to these tactics. I actually supported their gaining independence from Russia until they resorted to terrorism. Now Russia pretty much has to subdue the rebellion and continue its occupation, otherwise it would be sending a powerful message to the world about the effectiveness of terrorism.

Ditto...

Plus, how about no more nuclear aid to Iran?

..."...American investigators recently identified a source financing Chechen gangs in Chicago. As a result, they closed the Benevolence International Foundation, which had already transferred over $300,000 to militants in Chechnya."...

..."...There must no longer be Western "havens", where terrorists can rest, seek treatment, use all the benefits of civilisation and even find sympathetic sponsors."...

Maybe the US is a "Safe Haven", which could explain the lack of attacks here.

Nice column, but it would be nice if he'd call on the russian government to also condemn terrorist killings of children when they happen in Jerusalem and Tel-Aviv.

The terrorists had better start getting scared. The Russians won't just put panties on their heads if captured. How about getting boiled alive in giant vats of pig fat and other niceties. There will no inquiries, no liberals to decry the inhumanity of the treatment. No, only an extremely ugly painful death will await any terrorists who fall into Russians hands.

Didn't take some of them long to get around to blaming US for their terror.

In this war, Moscow would like to see as sincere and unequivocal support from the West as the West has received from Russia since 9/11.

Russia was unequivocal in its support for Iraq, and what about Syrian resolutions? I'd like to see stronger cooperation from THEIR corner.

They noted we haven't had a major terror attack since 9-11, they refuse to accept the reason why. This isn't to say we won't be attacked again, but if we are they understand flames will be on their heels in quick fashion. Beyond that, they understand their havens to operate will be further shortened. That's the kicker. It is one thing to have individual terrorists taken out. Quite another to lose one friendly country after another for your playground.

This writer seems to be forgetting about Iran.

Building nuclear reactors in Iran is aiding and abetting terrorist on an unimaginable scale.

Where are the Russian peace keepers in Iraq?

It is time for Putin to decide which side he's on.

I would imagine that Putin and Bush have had a conversation on just this topic...

The Euros will still thumb their noses at Russia, but if the latter really has decided to get serious about the WoT, there could be major benefits for us and they.

Let's pray to God that these barbaric acts in Russia will wake up the world to the WOT. Has anyone seen if Kerry has had any comments on the slaughter in Beslan? Has this shmuck woken up yet?

This is a very dangerous process," Putin said, adding that Saddam Hussein's regime had prevented terrorists from coming to Iraq.
