When the Romans were unable to reach an accomodation with an enemy, and had found the enemy so intractable as to be incapable of keeping a peace agreement, they would, after conquering, kill every living thing in the enemy's territory: men, women, children, dogs, horses - everything.
The Romans did not do this out of savagery, but because they had determined over the course of hundreds of years that such measures were the only effective means of causing barbarians to fear Rome enough that they would stop committing depradations on the fringes of the Empire.

Many of those killed in Russia just two days ago were Christians. All of those daily killed in Israel by Palestinian terrorists are Jews. The bloodthirst of radical Islam will not be satisfied until such atrocities bring Christianity, Judaism, and all liberty-loving people to their knees at the feet of Allah. And we help them in their evil crusade by minimizing many of those atrocities by choosing to occupy ourselves with disasters that are somehow easier to face.

And another account of the hostages undressing themselves--which you said modesty would never allow them to do:

But as to any rapes and baby bayonetting, I hope the publication that ran this article is more reputable than the last one that did.
Time will tell what went on--I am not jumping to conclusions yet.
Once again, I am reminded of the stories about babies and incubators, which was run by reputable American publications--and which later proved false.
And once again--I am not saying the atrocities you believe happened, didn't happen; I will wait to see what more comes of these stories.
