A series of small fires set around a St. Catharines mosque were being treated as a hate crime Saturday after Niagra Regional Police found what they called bias-oriented statements etched into the concrete outside.
Police said they were alerted to the fires early Saturday morning when a car fire was reported at a store adjacent to the Majid-an-Noor mosque.
Police said the car, which was parked against the north side of the mosque, had been completely destroyed by fire.
Further investigation revealed several other small fires set at the rear of the mosque.
Toronto telivision station CFTO reported that cardboard had been stuffed into the mosque's ventilation system and ignited
"For sure it is very sad," mosque spokesman Ezeldin Abadalla told the telivision station.
"But...we believe this is a very isolated incident, it doesn't reflect the attitude of our society here in St. Catharines."
Police said the fires only caused minimal damage to the building.
They said they will use "all available resources" to catch whomever is responsible.
Never fear, the Kanuckistan Ministry of Multiculturalism will arrest and sentence the evil perpretrators of such hate in soldiarity with the heroic "freedom fighters" who sacrificed their lives for the advancement of diversity in Beslan, Russia.
This is an act of vandalism and should be treated as any other act of vandalism. It is a mark of the patience and forbearance of the native populace of both the US and Canada that every single mosque hasn't been burned to the ground.
I'm betting that a local kindergarten made a preemptive strike.
Ping
lol
They probably did it themselves looking for some infidel sympathy. Maybe now, they can worship their allah in a Porta-Potty.
They probably took over an old church and declared it an islamic holy city and historical site.
There are actually times when hate is justified.
Normally against individuals, not groups.
However, it would be cool to see more members of Muslim communities renounce their own hate crimes. Otherwise, it makes it look like they might be tacitly supportive of terrorism.
I think I heard it as "what goes around comes around," but that might be just the local idiom.
It is the Majid-an-Noor mosque located in the city of St. Catharine.
